The Role:

The Regulatory, Industry and Government Affairs (RIGA) Policy Analyst, based in London, supports the Director EMEA RIGA in monitoring legislative and regulatory developments in the EMEA region of relevance to State Street and its clients. The role includes providing updates internally on relevant legislative developments, supporting the development of State Street’s positions and communicating them effectively to relevant stakeholders. To this end, the successful candidate has to cooperate with the rest of the global RIGA team, interact with colleagues within State Street across all functions, business lines and European jurisdictions as well as with relevant external stakeholders such as the European institutions and industry associations.

Job Summary/Description:

Working with and supporting the Director EMEA of RIGA, the Policy Analyst’s responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring EU regulatory initiatives and identifying emerging issues relevant for State Street and its clients;
  • Providing thorough analysis of EU developments, supplying senior management, relevant colleagues and internal committees with timely and succinct analyses of information, developing political strategies and advice;
  • Facilitating development of positions and presenting them to relevant EU authorities and other stakeholders;
  • Building State Street’s influence and profile in European Institutions, by undertaking activities and liaising with MEPs, officials of EU Institutions as well relevant industry bodies;
  • Developing an effective network of contacts at appropriate levels and with relevant EU institutions, industry associations, other stakeholders and/or consultancies active at EU level;
  • Support of the internal regulatory reform project by providing relevant updates, making presentations on key issues, contributing to relevant documentation and supporting the project in its day-to-day activities.

Divisions/Teams the candidate will interact with:

The successful candidate will interact on a daily basis with the other RIGA colleagues based in the US and Asia Pacific, and with colleagues in the control functions, in particular in Legal, Compliance and the Risk department. In addition, as RIGA is a corporate function, we cover all relevant State Street businesses and have regular interactions with representatives from the different businesses across all European jurisdictions.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • University degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, International Affairs or alike;
  • Prior experience in the European institutions or with a regulator is desirable;
  • Experience in working with the European institutions and good knowledge of EU policymaking;
  • Good knowledge of financial services, in particular of banking and asset management;
  • Ability to think strategically and to influence;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and networking skills;
  • Highly developed team spirit;
  • Proficiency in English, and other European languages desirable.
Size of overall team: State Street’s RIGA team globally consists of a team of 12, with 2 of its members (including the successful candidate) being based in Europe. 

Travel: Frequent, mainly to Brussels.
