WWF is one of the world's most influential conservation organizations. An early advocate of sustainable human behaviour coupled with strong action to conserve biodiversity it has been a leader of both thought and practice since 1961. Today it has a powerful network with 6,000 staff, nearly six million supporters, and is active in over 100 countries on five continents.  In many countries, in addition to delivering significant conservation impact, WWF is an integral part of civil society and has influenced corporate behaviour, policies and legislation.
WWF has embarked on an effort to build a more truly global network – committing to build much stronger and more influential offices in the countries across the South and East that are most important to its mission, and at the same time strengthening its ability to act regionally and globally to deliver important conservation results.
The Director General will lead the WWF Network in this transformation.  S/he will provide strategic vision, intellectual rigour, and coordination of effort within the organization.  S/he will be the global representative of the organization with partners in government, the private sector, and civil society.  S/he will also supervise the WWF International Secretariat, working with the WWF International Board, and direct its resource mobilization campaign. Candidates will bring an understanding of the conservation sector and the capacity to communicate to a range of audiences. They will have a track record of successful leadership within complex international organizations, and will bring direct experience of working in the global South and/or East.
