LEIII CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY RESEARCH OFFICER

A vacancy exists for a temporary full-time LEIII officer dealing with climate change and energy issues within the Global Issues section at the British Embassy in Paris. This vacancy is for 6 months (September 2013 – end March 2014).
The main duties of the position will include:
  •  Research and analysis of French domestic climate and energy policy;
  •  Working with UKTI on commercial diplomacy opportunities in the energy sector;
  •  Press and social media monitoring;
  •  Contact management;
  •  Helping organise inward visits for official visits;
  •  Participating in the organisation of team public diplomacy events.
Depending on the officer’s experience, there may also be an opportunity to cover specific policy areas under the supervision of the team leader.
Required skills and experience:
Essential :
  •  Fluent spoken and written English and French. A language test will form part of the recruitment process.
  •  Strong communication and persuasive ability in both languages, with people of all levels.
  •  Proven research and information-gathering skills.
  •  Clear, concise and convincing drafting and presentation skills.
  •  Excellent organisational and time-management skills, especially the ability to work under pressure and to prioritise when faced with tight deadlines.
  •  Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently, and to develop a good range of contacts.
  •  Proactive approach: ability to anticipate problems and to suggest practical solutions.
  •  Good working knowledge of the Internet, Social Media and the Microsoft Office package.
Highly desirable :
  •  Knowledge of and interest in energy and climate issues. Experience in this area would be an advantage.
Pay
The gross starting salary for this position will be € 2,145.00 per month.
