Insurance Europe is the European insurance and reinsurance federation. Through its 34 member bodies — the national insurance associations — Insurance Europe represents all types of insurance and reinsurance undertakings, eg pan-European companies, monoliners, mutuals and SMEs. Insurance Europe, which is based in Brussels, represents undertakings that account for around 95% of total European premium income. Insurance makes a major contribution to Europe's economic growth and development. European insurers generate premium income of over €1 100bn, employ nearly one million people and invest almost €7 500bn in the economy.
For our macro-economics, life and pensions department, we are looking for a (m/f) Policy Advisor Economics and Statistics.
Function
- Is in charge of Insurance Europe’s statistics: organises and executes the collection of key figures and statistics about the European insurance sector, covering all insurance related areas (e.g. life, motor, health, pensions, reinsurance);
- Performs data-analysis and prepares analytical reports, with view to producing quarterly and annual reporting on developments and trends about the European insurance and reinsurance market; coordinates closely with national associations on the data-interpretation and analysis;
- Contributes to selected Insurance Europe publications such as “European Insurance in Figures” and “European Insurance Key Facts”; contributes to Insurance Europe’s policy making;
- Performs economic analysis and provides statistical expertise in view of joint projects with other departments. Cooperates closely with other members of the team in the analysis and reporting of results;
- Supports various Insurance Europe working groups and committees, in particular the Economics and Statistics Committee, and coordinates with other relevant Committees and taskforces;
- Assumes responsibility for contacts and coordination with external stakeholders, e.g. OECD, Eurostat and other relevant European/international organisations;
- Coordinates closely with and reports directly to the Head of Macro-economics, life and pensions.
Profile
Essential
- University degree in economics with an emphasis on statistics and economic analysis;
- Experience with treatment of data and reporting about complex, quantitative issues;
- Very good analytical skills and proven ability to synthesise feedback;
- Good understanding of the financial services sector, experience with the insurance industry would be advantageous;
- Ability to work independently and in a team;
- Excellent interpersonal skills (i.e. presentation and communication skills);
- Demonstrated ability to draft concise, clear policy papers on complex technical subjects, and to communicate the results to non-specialist audiences;
- Proven capacity to deliver high quality results on a timely basis with attention for detail;
- Excellent ICT skills.
Desirable
- Experience in building consensus on the basis of input from various stakeholders;
- Experience in an international and multi-cultural environment is advantageous.
