Structural Determinants Advisor - South Africa

We are currently looking for a Structural Determinants Advisor to work with a grant management program to provide technical leadership in the identification and solutions for grant recipient organizations and other capacity building needs.   Specific responsibilities include:
  • Lead the program team in the analysis of social and structural determinants related to HIV prevention
  • Provide leadership and technical input and oversight for the implementation of social and community development objectives in the annual work-plans
  • Identify needs for sustainable training to be addressed at community level, in collaboration with government and implementing partners.
  • Identify needs for technical assistance for departments and community based HIV prevention organizations
  • Ensure that all objectives of the annual work-plans are met and flag any critical delay to the Senior Training and Development Advisor.
  • Use a combination of logic, analysis, experience, wisdom, and advanced methods to make sound, timely decisions and to solve problems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Support the effectively communication of the departmental strategies to all program partners, stakeholders and provincial management teams.
Qualifications
  • Master’s in public health, social work, or related field with 5 years experience or Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in programme management, including planning, budgeting and coordination, with strong management skills
  • Experienced in relationship building.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Strategic Plan on HIV, STIs & TB 2012 – 2016
  • Demonstrated competence and knowledge in HIV prevention
  • Demonstration of strategic planning with various groups and sectors
  • Experience in capacity building, training and/or identifying needs to improve capacity within community based organizations
  • Successively responsible positions in South Africa HIV prevention programs, especially in DSD, SANAC, NDOH, DBE, or other government departments
  • At least 5 years demonstrated experience leading large and multidisciplinary teams, especially where teams do not sit together
  • Experience managing donor funded projects, specifically USAID
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong preference for local nationals
