Oxfam Novib has started a new initiative to support the development of social business models in our organisation. Oxfam Novib also has recently signed a 22 million Euro contract with Sida to implement an ambitious multi-country project from 1 October 2013-30 June 2019. The Seeds GROW project encompasses two important Oxfam Novib initiatives- a seeds biodiversity and food security programme as well as our GROW campaign, with special attention on the Food and Climate Justice campaign. To support the Seeds and food security programme and other programmes in the organisation to develop their social business models optimally, Oxfam Novib is offering a position for a  
Business Specialist
32 hours per week, starting January 1st 2014
Contract period: one year with possibility for extension
The Hague
The role aims to: 1) develop a financially sustainable business model for FSEs (Farmer Seed Enterprise) 2) and support other potential social business in the organisation to develop their business plans and 3) design and advice on (innovative) funding strategies for FSE and the other social business initiatives. The Business Specialist will work in close cooperation with the Senior Programme Manager of the Seeds project and the Business for Development bureau in Oxfam Novib. .
Main tasks:
To develop and roll out the FSE business model:
• Develop and manage the FSE business model, incubation strategy, plan and budget.
• Develop and implement an outreach strategy and plan to secure potential social entrepreneurs.
• Select and set up incubation partners and business development consultants: negotiate favourable contract terms and manage partnerships.
To support other social business initiatives in Oxfam Novib:
• Assess potential business ideas on their financial sustainability and social impact.
• Provide input in the further development of the business plan of new initiatives and advice on the operations of existing social business initiatives.
In general:
• Provide technical backstopping, capacity building and direct operational support to  the FSE partner’s field operations and Oxfam Novib staff and potential business partners.
• Build a network among potential social business leads, incubation organisations, business consultants, local investment funds and institutional donors to expand the farmer seed enterprises and other Oxfam Novib social business initiatives.
• Contribute to writing technical reports, publications and proposals and document learning on social business development for Oxfam Novib.
• Liaise with the private sector for their engagement with FSEs and other social business initiatives in Oxfam Novib.
You have
• A University degree in economics or finance, preferably a MBA in Business Development;
• A minimum of five years of experience in consulting services to social enterprises, developing business plans, providing training and/or leading a social enterprise successfully;
• Proven project and budget management experience, including monitoring;
• Track record in fundraising and proposal writing is required;
• Awareness of the legal and operating environment for small and medium enterprises in developing countries;
• Experience in capacity building;
• Good knowledge of the NGO sector; while also knowledge of the Oxfam confederation will be considered an asset;
• Good communication skills, especially intercultural regarding to intercultural relations;
• Willingness to travel abroad;
• Fluent English skills both orally and written. Command of French is considered an asset.
We offer
A competitive, fair and comprehensive pay and benefits package that is justifiable to our donors. The position is new and not yet formally characterized and graded. The provisional classification salary is between € 2.607,- and € 4.011,- gross per month based on a 36-hour week.
