About ICT

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) works to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet. ICT does the following:
  • Monitors and reports on human rights, environmental and socio economic conditions in Tibet;
  • Advocates for Tibetans imprisoned for their political or religious beliefs;
  • Works with governments to develop policies and programs to help Tibetans;
  • Secures humanitarian and development assistance for Tibetans;
  • Works with Chinese institutions and individuals to build understanding and trust, and explores relationships between Tibetans and Chinese,
  • Mobilizes individuals and the international community to take action on behalf of Tibetans; and
  • Promotes self-determination for the Tibetan people through negotiations between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama.
Founded in 1988, ICT is an international NGO, which maintains offices in Washington, DC, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, and London with a field office in Dharamsala, India.

About the Campaign Coordinator position at ICT Brussels

Responsible for: Coordinating and implementing ICT’s campaign around the upcoming European Parliament’s elections
Reporting to: EU Policy Director
Duration: Contract of 4 months (1 February 2014 – 31 May 2014)
Status: Full-time (5 days per week)

Key Tasks

In collaboration with the Policy and Advocacy Officer:
  • Coordinate and implement ICT’s EP elections campaign;
  • Assist and support the implementation of the communication strategy of the campaign;
  • Update ICT Brussels media list and contact databases;
  • Develop and draft content, including news stories, blogs, campaign material and press releases;
  • Provide support to ICT Brussels administrative tasks.

Skill Requirements

  • A university degree (preferably a master’s degree) in either Communications, Political Science, Human Rights, European Studies, International Relations or any other specific field relevant to ICT’s work;
  • A good understanding of the functioning and institutions of the European Union and the EU’s foreign and human rights policy;
  • Experience in campaigning for a non-governmental organization and/or in the field of communications;
  • Previous experience in a related field such as EU institutions (particularly the European Parliament) or NGOs advocating at EU level;
  • An excellent command of both written and spoken English. A good knowledge of additional European languages is an asset;
  • Team spirit and willingness to work in a small multicultural team;
  • Excellent organizational and drafting skills;
  • A good knowledge of and strong interest in human rights and/or Tibet is desirable;
  • Fully computer literate; skilled and confident user of office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and calendar applications.
You will be offered a short-term contract for 4 months. In order to qualify for this contract, you must hold a Belgian work permit or be allowed to work in Belgium.
