The opportunity
 
We are looking for a Safety Advisor, based at our iron ore operation, Yandicoogina, to act as a safety resource for all the operational departments and support teams.
 
Located 95km north-west of Newman, Yandicoogina offers a range of fly in fly out rosters. As Australia's largest producing iron ore mine, it generates more than 50 million tonnes of Hammersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines each year.

What the role entails
 
This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual with the ability to influence the senior stakeholders. Working on a fly in fly out roster (9 days on and 5 days off) and reporting to the Superintendent Health & Safety, you will be:
 
  • Mentoring and supervising safety at the Superintendent level, managing the work 2014 plan, Critical Control Monitoring Plans and data management      
  • Coaching and mentoring the officers to ensure they are capable to provide advice, support and assistance concerning the full range of operational safety issues, safety systems and standards
  • Carrying out prestarts, managing projects and scheduled work along with following up on incidents and assisting with investigations
  • Implementing a process to ensure there are incident reporting, hazard or risk analysis and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) interaction coaching and guidance for all line leaders
  • Coordinating, reviewing and identifying improvements for weekly, monthly and 6 monthly safety related reporting in line with the Rio Tinto guidelines and procedures
  • Managing the engagement and performance of direct reports and monitoring the quality and standard of services delivered by the external contractors and service providers
  • Coordinating the audits and reviews of site risk registers to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Developing and reviewing safety procedures in consultation with the operational staff
 
What you will need for this role
 
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
 
  • A diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or similar
  • Experience leading people and in the industry 
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite
  • A manual “C” class driver’s licence
 
 An OHS degree and experience within a Business Improvement background will be highly regarded.
