Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tinto's interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the world's third largest diamond producer by value. Diavik has won awards for its sensitive management of environmental and community issues.

 
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance the Manager Finance, Procurement and Logistics, will be responsible for:
  • managing the finance function at DDMI to ensure the effective allocation of resources to meet operational and corporate requirements related to reporting, planning, insurance, taxation, treasury and compliance; and
  • planning, organizing, directing and controlling the materials purchasing, contract services and logistics functions to site across the organization in order to ensure that the established level of quality service is maintained and that products are purchased at the lowest total cost, while adhering to Diavik’s standards, operating procedures and Socio-Economic Agreements.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Finance
  • All financial and statutory reporting for DDMI and the joint venture partners.
  • Management reporting and variance analysis.
  • Supporting operational managers in cost control and business improvement initiatives.
  • Planning, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Accounting for capital expenditure.
  • Managing the compliance programme of the business including internal audit, external audit and SOX compliance.
  • Managing the tax obligations of the business in coordination with Rio Tinto tax.
  • Managing the insurance programme for the business in association with Rio Tinto Risk Management.
  • Treasury functions and cash management is association with Rio Tinto Treasury.
  • Other duties as required.
 
Procurement
  • Act as leader and spearhead all procurement strategy development efforts at Diavik Diamond Mines Inc.
  • Provide leadership and direction regarding best practice, market conditions, shifts in pricing, etc.
  • Establish, track and evaluate costs, benefits and performance criteria for all procurement.
  • Establish comprehensive procurement policies and ensure that all purchasing related activities are carried out within budget and following corporate guidelines.
  • Provide leadership in the supplier selection and negotiation process.
  • Continually identify and leverage expense reduction opportunities.
 
Logistics
  • Logistics management and optimization ensuring efficient and timely delivery of parts, materials and capital purchases from suppliers to the site. Logistics systems include air and road freight.
  • Management of the annual ice road freight process including negotiating contracts with carriers, scheduling and expediting deliveries on the ice road.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • An accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA) is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in accounting in industry managing financial and management accounting, budgeting, and compliance.
 
The incumbent will work Monday to Friday in an office setting at the Corporate Office in Yellowknife.
