Communications Coordinator
Background:
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is the world governing body for hockey, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Founded in 1924, FIH today has 127 member National Associations and is responsible for the biggest hockey events in the world including the much anticipated Hockey World Cup and the illustrious Champions Trophy.
Role:
FIH recently set a new vision “to entertain and inspire a global movement of hockey fans and players”. To reach this vision, we are growing our marketing and communication team to enable us to better connect with fans and players.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications and working out of the office in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Communications Coordinator will give support on all communication-related matters enhancing the profile and reputation of hockey, FIH’s events and FIH as an organisation. This role includes some travel to events but is mostly office based. The successful candidate will work closely with the Freelance Media Operations Coordinator and the Marketing Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and launch of a new FIH website
- Be the main source of copywriting and editorial for the FIH website in conjunction with fellow staff and the Head of Marketing & Communications
- Ensure website is regularly updated with hockey news in accordance with editorial calendar and consultation with Head of Marketing & Communications
- Input and maintain the FIH internal editorial calendar across all digital channels in conjunction with the Marketing Coordinator and other FIH staff
- Ensure social networks are active through liaison with the Marketing Coordinator and other FIH staff
- Produce and distribute all FIH press releases with consultation from the Head of Marketing & Communications
- Manage the FIH media distribution list and answer all basic media enquiries made through the media mailbox
- Compile and send monthly electronic newsletters to key audiences – fans and the hockey family
- Coordinate the editorial, design and production of all FIH publications in conjunction with the Head of Marketing & Communications
- Manage the media section of FIH’s website in conjunction with the Media Operations Coordinator
- Provide feedback on FIH event publications to ensure highest editorial standards
- Lead dedicated projects as defined by the Head of Marketing & Communications
- Deliver timely reporting including management of media monitoring agency and dissemination of reports
Skills & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2-4 years of communication, journalism, or public relations experience (newspaper, magazine, website, agency or federation) ideally sports related
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential (French and/or other languages would be looked upon favourably)
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent understanding of social networks and websites
- Solid interpersonal skills
- Proactive approach to work and developing new projects
- Ability to work well as part of the team
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
- Passion for sport, in particular hockey
- Sense of humour
