Intern, Knowledge Management/FIELD-Support, in Washington, DC

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Intern, Knowledge Management/FIELD-Support, in Washington, DC.
The Knowledge Management/FIELD-Support Intern will work directly with the FIELD-Support KM team to support the learning agenda of the project by helping to disseminate learning products (reports, briefs, etc.) primarily through social media outlets, but also via web, in-person events, and webinars. The Intern will also provide support to the planning and preparation for the FIELD-Support project close-out event, which will be a two-day conference held in September 2014. Under close collaboration with project staff, the intern will also perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training.
Accountabilities:
  • Execute the project’s Social Media Strategy by contributing to and maintaining the project’s twitter account including posting FIELD-Support generated content and re-tweeting relevant content from industry and practitioner twitter feeds.
  • Contribute ideas and strategies to increase Twitter followers, retweets, mentions and favorites.
  • Summarize and format learning products such as reports, briefs, and success stories for broader dissemination.
  • Write communications pieces (success stories, articles, and blog posts) to further disseminate learning products.
  • Assist with submissions to project-related websites and listservs.
  • Support planning and preparation for project close-out event and logistics, including creation of conference materials.
  • Gather and maintain analytics on: FIELD-Support resources using Google Analytics; and social media outreach effectiveness using various other analytics tools.
Project Description:
The FIELD-Support Leader with Associates (LWA) is a USAID-funded mechanism for developing knowledge in and advancing the state of the practice of microfinance and microenterprise development. Under the Leader award, activities such as pilot programs and research initiatives are funded to facilitate new knowledge generation, field test theoretical models and disseminate information throughout the donor and practitioner communities.
Qualifications:
Education
  • Requires intern to be a recent university graduate (within one year of graduation) or currently enrolled in a Masters’ or PhD degree program in a related field, such as Economic Development, Journalism, Communication, Anthropology, etc.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Strong written and communication skills. Experience with news/promotional writing a plus.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language is a plus. Proactive and eager to learn new skills.
  • Experience using Social Media platforms (such as Twitter) for outreach.
  • Experience assisting with large-scale events is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge and/or interest in economic development.
  • Ability to navigate basic productivity software essential, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong abilities with Word document formatting a plus. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Detailed oriented and able to problem solve and take direction well.
  • Must be available to work up to 40 hours/week in Washington, DC between May 2014 and September 2014.
