The Organisation

QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets. 

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel. 

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 

Position Summary

It is the primary role of this position to manage and coordinate the Upstream Permits and Application team in the preparation, assessment, review and delivery of all environmental permits and approvals for the QGC Upstream Project, including Federal, State and local government approvals. 

The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating environmental assessments, preparation of management plans, permits and approvals and providing expert environmental advice regarding environmental management, permits and approvals required for petroleum development activities across the Upstream Project. 

Key Accountabilities

Position Specific• Prepare, manage and coordinate the writing and delivery of Environmental Authority applications and amendments under the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004
• Provide expert environmental advice and/or prepare, manage and coordinate the delivery of CSG water related approvals including but not limited too Beneficial Use Applications and Recycled Water Management Plans
• Prepare, manage, review and coordinate the writing and delivery of clearing applications under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 
• Provide expert environmental advice, prepare, manage and coordinate the delivery of any permits and approvals triggered under the various legislation for the requirements of the QCLNG Upstream Project 
• Interpret and provide advice on licence conditions management plans and other environmental requirements as required
• Research specific issues as required and undertake options and strategy analysis 
• Liaise with and update the Asset Management teams schedule with the status of the Upstream permits and approvals
• Liaise with the Commercial team with the status of EA applications for the granting of tenures
• Coordinate with consultants, internal and external stakeholders, government agencies and other proponents about environmental permits and approvals and environmental management plans
• Provide expert environmental permits and approvals advice through review and commentary on Project related documents
• Ensure appropriate records and document controls are maintained to ensure accountability of permitting actions and decisions

People Management• The incumbent must abide by company policy in relation to HR policies and procedures such as annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience Needed
• Specialist environmental approval and permitting experience 
• Experience in similar environmental planning, permitting and approval roles in the mining or oil & gas industry
• Experience interpreting and using legislation and policy
• Experience in the principles and processes of environmental assessment, management and planning (preferably in Queensland)

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Planning or Law
• Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects concurrently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Excellent problem solving and analytical capability
• Highly developed ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients and stakeholders 
• Good knowledge of planning and environmental legislation and policies in Queensland

Special Features
