Cisco Systems Research Chair in Mining Solutions

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications from qualified individuals for a senior Cisco Systems Research Chair in Mining Solutions. The successful candidate must hold an earned Ph.D. in electrical and/or computer engineering and also be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Saskatchewan. Commensurate with qualifications and experience, the salary target, including stipend, will range from $150-190K. This position comes with a comprehensive benefits package which includes pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), academic long term disability, sick leave, travel insurance, death benefit, dental plan, extended health and vision care plan, employee assistance program and flexible health and wellness spending program. Complementing the current faculty, the successful candidate is expected to provide leadership to the department’s teaching and research programs in the application of electronic devices and computer software to mining industry problems.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in both academia and industry. Once appointed, the Cisco Chair will be expected to pursue an NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair (IRC). The ideal candidate will be an internationally recognized researcher, both in terms of publications and the training of highly-qualified personnel.

This is a tenured full professor position with reduced teaching and administration duties. The research thrust is cyber-physical systems. This involves developing algorithms and/or hardware that integrate sensors, networks, controls and computing with mining equipment to improve and support efficient, reliable and safe mining operations. While the research activity will not be confined to Saskatchewan problems, mining is one of three core drivers of the Saskatchewan economy. The Chair will have an exceptional opportunity to maximize research collaboration with Cisco Systems as well as the many international mining companies. Creation of the Chair builds on the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering’s expertise in sensors, networks and communication.
