Cost Accountant

PRECORP was founded in 1986 to manufacture Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) drills using their patented vein process. These drills found success drilling precision fastener holes in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composites (CFRP). Being a special round tool company, Precorp applied the vein technology to a variety of tool types such as reamers, end mills, spot facers and countersink tools across all machining industries. In the early 2000’s, Precorp expanded its capabilities and added solid carbide special round tools to their offering. In an attempt to keep manufacturing close to the customer, Precorp has three facilities in the U.S. (Utah, Michigan and South Carolina) and one facility in Delmenhorst, Germany. In 2013, Sandvik acquired Precorp, Inc. and today Precorp, Inc. works within the Sandvik Coromant organization. This allows a global presence for Precorp products and positions Precorp to be a global leader in engineered cutting tool solutions.
Key Performance Areas
As the Cost Accountant, you will construct the cost accounting system for the organization. You will be responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities as well as monitor the cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. Additionally, the Cost Accountant will report on breakeven points by products, work centers, and factories, as well as, report on margins by product and division, and periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances. The Cost Accountant will also provide assistance to the Accounting Manager in preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for monthly general ledger close.
The primary focus of this role will be cost accounting, but will also include general ledger and fixed asset responsibilities.
Requirements of this position also include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
  • Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues
  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
  • Work with the materials review board to locate and dispose of obsolete inventory
  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses
  • Analyze capital budgeting requests
  • Perform cost accumulation tasks as a member of the target costing group
  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of fixed assets
Your profile
In addition to your Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, 5-7years of accounting experience with a minimum of 3 years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment is required. You have a strong cost systems background and comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, along with excellent analytical skills. You possess prior experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on the development and analysis of cost standards, and are comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels throughout the company.
You are ready to promote new initiatives and processes and initiate action. Your interpersonal skills are excellent and you are a team player who works well with others in pursuit of a common goal. You are comfortable working in a matrix environment and your communication skills, verbal and written, are top-notch.
Additionally the Cost Accountant will be:
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work at a high level of accuracy
  • Comfortable using computer-based accounting systems, JobBOSS knowledge a plus
  • Familiar with ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite
