Advisor, HIV/STI Prevention

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), is an international public health agency with over 100 years of experience in working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. The Communicable Diseases and Health Analysis Department (CHA) promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation activities directed toward the surveillance, prevention, control, and elimination of communicable diseases and zoonosis that are technically sound and appropriate for the political and sociocultural context in which they are implemented.

The incumbent is a member of the HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Unit (CHA/HT) and contributes to the planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities included in the Unit’s Biennial Work Plan (BWP). The incumbent acts in an advisory capacity to provide technical cooperation to Member States on matters related to the prevention, control and where appropriate, elimination of HIV/AIDS, STI,  in a broad perspective of Universal Access and Universal Health Coverage, with emphasis on integration and synergies among services. The prime focus of this position is on key populations disproportionately affected by HIV and STI
 The successful candidate will have:
  • A university degree in a health-related profession and a master’s degree in public health or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Nine years of combined national and international experience in policy formulation, organization of service delivery systems for HIV/STI, including at least five years’ experience in designing and implementing programs at national level and in providing HIV and STI prevention services with emphasis on key populations, including people living with HIV, incorporating gender and human rights approaches to health care delivery for HIV.
  • Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language
Salary range: US$ 101,615.10 -US$ 109,119.40, net of income taxes.  PAHO/WHO’s compensation package includes dependency benefits, pension plan, health insurance scheme, and 30 days annual leave.  Benefits for internationally recruited staff may include travel and removal expenses on appointment and separation, assignment grant, rental subsidy, and home leave.
