Summary:

The Psychiatric Provider provides quality psychiatric services to special populations, emphasizing psycho-education, recovery, harm reduction, management of symptoms and treatment of mental illness, addiction and trauma. The role of the Psychiatric Provider in a community setting is a response to society’s demand for accessible quality psychiatric care to all populations regardless of socio-economic status. The Psychiatric Provider practices in collaboration with and as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Productivity is defined in each providers’ contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Completes psychiatric evaluations and manages acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure continuity of care, including primary care providers
• Manages and evaluates the plan of care, process and outcome and then modifies the plan as needed.
• Adheres to collaborative practice principles of respect and joint decision-making.
• Maintain collaborative agreements between physician and mid-level provider, including monthly collaborative meetings.
• Assures access and continuity of care by providing call for after-hours coverage.
• Collaborates with other multidisciplinary professionals and community agencies to provide high quality care.
• Seeks opportunities for community and professional outreach to maintain and increase referral base.
• Provides outreach as agreed to with supervisor.
• Providing training and presentations to multi-disciplinary professionals and community agencies, as agreed to with supervisor.
• Disseminate information about services provided to other agencies or heath care professionals as agreed to with supervisor.
• Participates in quality improvement collaborative peer review.
• Assumes the responsibility for professional development and contributes to the professional growth of others within the treatment team by serving as a consultant.
• Incorporates and disseminates research findings as a basis for practice and to improve heath care outcomes.
• Identifies clinical questions to be researched.
• Assumes the responsibility for maintaining competence in clinical practice by:
o Engaging in mentor relationships with experienced providers to gain clinical expertise.
o Developing and maintaining a case load as clinical competence is achieved to enhance continuity of care and meet Organization productivity standards.
o Participating in appropriate educational activities in order to maintain Board certification and continue professional growth.
• Documents comprehensive, accurate and continual data on participant records and program reports according to Organization standards within designated timelines.
• Prepares the appropriate program reports to fulfill funding requirements as assigned.
• Practices within the legal, ethical and professional guidelines established by: American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Physicians, American Psychiatric Association, American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Nurse Practice Act, the Code of Nurses, the Social Policy Statement, American Nurses Association (ANA), American Psychiatric Nurses Association, American Nurse Credentialing Center, Advance Practice Nurse Act, private funding sources, Agency plans/policies, HIPAA, HA Ethics and program guidelines. Participates in periodic evaluative reviews and/or in-house and external staff training to ensure that he/she understands and continues to adhere to such standards. Initiates requests for assistance or guidance from Manager to address new issues or complex concepts affecting adherence to professional standards.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Education and/or Experience. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Master's degree (M. A.) in nursing with APN license. Advanced practice specialization in psychiatric nursing or six to ten years related experience and/or training.
• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Active Illinois Physician licensure, Board certification in psychiatry or Board Eligible, documentation of a Medical Degree from an accredited school of Medicine, documentation of residency completion in psychiatry from an accredited residency program and Physician National Data Bank verification of legal claims history. Licensed Advanced Practice Nurse with a specialization in psychiatry and Collaborative Agreement with a Board Eligible Psychiatrist.
