Assistant Director (Program Coordination)
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and assume lead responsibility in organizing Hariri Center programs, including workshops and conferences, and liaise with office of external relations and other programs to ensure successful execution and publicity for events.
- Coordinate travel arrangements and prepare substantive briefing material for guests coming to Washington and for Council trips abroad.
- Maintain and expand the Hariri Center’s contact database and disseminate invitations, publications, and other materials to the relevant contacts.
- Write, edit, and lay out program reports, newsletters, press releases, and other publications to communicate Hariri Center activities to target audiences.
- Assist the Deputy Director in financial oversight by managing the program’s budget and tracking expenditures.
- Coordinate distribution of information across Atlantic Council and Hariri Center online platforms (website and blogs) and promote online content through Twitter and other social media.
- Support Director and Senior Fellows with research as needed; serve as rapporteur to Council task forces and workshops; assist in drafting various Atlantic Council publications.
- Assist with writing grant proposals to seek new sources of funding and writing donor reports for existing grants.
About the Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East
The Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East seeks to produce original analysis of the forces transforming the region, as well as policy recommendations for the United States and Europe about how to promote closer and more productive relations with the region. The Hariri Center recognizes the substantial linkages between political and economic affairs, and will develop policy initiatives to promote successful democratic transitions and greater convergence among the Middle East, the United States, and Europe. The Center is dedicated to the memory of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his efforts to rise above sectarianism and to promote innovative policies to support economic and political liberalization, sustainable conflict resolution, and greater regional and international integration.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- B.A. or M.A. in international relations, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related field is required.
- Strong organization, writing, and communication skills are required, in addition to demonstrated experience with database management.
- The successful candidate will have proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and formatting letters and official correspondence.
- Knowledge of the US government, Congress, and non-governmental organizations working on Middle East affairs is essential.
- Familiarity with budgets is strongly preferred. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to work closely and cooperatively with team members, partners, and contacts from a range of professional and regional backgrounds.
- Candidates with strong proficiency in Arabic and substantial overseas experience are strongly preferred.
