Fellow on Global Finance and Growth
The Atlantic Council seeks an intellectual entrepreneur to serve as the Council’s leading voice on global finance and growth at an existential moment for the future of Europe and the role of developed economies in setting the global economic agenda. The fellow will lead the Council’s work on regulatory policy affecting finance and others rules central to economic growth and innovation. The fellow will serve as a resident fellow in the Council’s dynamic Global Business and Economics (GBE) program, providing a go-to source for policymakers, press, and the wider public in understanding the deep implications of the financial crisis, and for policy recommendations responsive to economic and business decision-makers. This expert will also help the Council build a “prosperity pillar” of programming anchored in advancing Atlantic values and interests in free markets, good governance, sustainability, and growth.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, have a record of publishing, and enjoy the fast pace of building a world class international finance policy initiative on the strong foundations of existing Atlantic Council work. This position is located in Washington, DC, but would require international travel. The Atlantic Council offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. About the C. Boyden Gray Fellow on Global Finance and Growth
The global economy is at an inflection point. Developed economies are awash in debt and political crises threaten to mire both sides in further economic stagnation. New rules to govern financial markets are still not complete and other regulatory constraints on economic growth require reform. Unless these regulatory issues are addressed, the strength and influence of emerging economies and alternative forms of capitalism will increasingly challenge Western leadership and the free market model that has dominated the global economy since post World War II.
The C. Boyden Gray Fellow will place the Atlantic Council at the center of these sea changes in the global economic system, providing thought leadership and helping build an international platform for deliberations among government, business, and other crucial voices to identify and address the policy issues that will drive the post-crisis global economy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Thought Leadership and Publications. Provide expert analysis and comment. Write and edit materials for publication, including writing and editing reports, issue briefs, policy memos, op-eds, and website content.
- Strategic Planning. In coordination with the Program, Council leadership, and key board directors, develop the strategic vision and direction for GBE’s finance work.
- Project Management. Undertake all aspects of specific project development and implementation, including financial management of program.
- Supervision and Coordination. Manage a growing program staff as required. Integrate nonresident fellows and key board directors into the initiative’s programming and leverage expertise of the Council’s other programs and broader network.
- Outreach/Communication. Represent the Council externally and internally, especially with key government, international, and industry actors. Provide expert analysis and comment to interested media.
- Development. Work with Council leadership to identify and develop additional projects and sources of funding to further grow the Council’s “prosperity” work.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Experience in financial markets and with financial regulatory reform issues within a government, private sector, NGOs, or academia.
- Demonstrated expertise on other regulatory issues effecting economic growth and innovation.
- Familiarity with relevant US government agencies, the interagency process, and relevant private sector actors.
- Knowledge of international financial governance, including the G20 process, the Basel Committee, the Financial Stability Board, and the International Monetary Fund/Bretton Woods institutions.
- Excellent writing and editing skills; must be able to write quickly and coherently under time constraints and also manage larger writing projects.
- Excellent organizational and management skills; must be able to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
- Excellent people skills; must be able to manage staff and interns, and work well with colleagues, senior Council staff, and external officials and partners.
- Strong record of program management, organizational development, designing projects and events, excellent communication skills, superior writing ability, and attention to detail.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field and at least ten years work experience preferred.

The Global Business and Economics Program is a policy center that convenes business and government leaders from the United States and Europe to exchange ideas and design solutions to pressing global economic and financial challenges. Building upon and strengthening the already deep economic integration between Europe and the United States, the GBE program promotes transatlantic leadership in the global economy. Our aim is to identify areas for cooperation as well as convergence in policy in an effort to promote an open and mutually beneficial environment for transatlantic business, trade, and finance.
