Job Description
Background The Land Services Branch is part on the Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate and consists of the Field Identification System (FIS) Team (around 64 staff), the Global Positioning System (GPS) Team (7 staff), Pillar 1 and 2 (inc legacy) schemes relating to land (excluding cross compliance) - Inspections guidance, Biodiversity, forestry, deer and capital items and lead on LFA classification, implementation and delivery. The branch forms part of Agricultural Services Division.

The Job You will assist in the maintenance and operation of the Field Identification System and help process the 12,000 to 13,000 Land and Business Change Forms (LBCFs) sent in each year by farmers who are notifying the Directorate of changes to the maps of their field boundaries. You will check material provided by the farmer for completeness and contact the farmer to clarify details, and issue field maps to farmers. You will work with a Geographical Information System (GIS) and the IACS claims system in order to accurately map the boundaries of fields. You will also handle enquiries from farmers on the LBCFs

Qualifications & Experience You must hold a minimum of 5 SCE Standard or Ordinary Grades including English and a subject which clearly indicates competency in figure work. Standard Grades - only grades 1, 2 and 3 are acceptable. Ordinary Grades - only grades A, B and C (1, 2 and 3) are acceptable.

In addition, you will have excellent team working and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work on own initiative as well as first rate communication skills, both verbal and written. In addition, you must have experience using a Geographic information System and working in a customer focussed environment.

This is a 12 months fix term and pensionable appointment (with fair and open competition). New entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range.

Competencies
Self Management: You should be organised and systematic in prioritising your time, and be flexible in your approach. You will be expected to deal with a busy workload which requires prioritisation on a daily basis and provide assistance to others when requested. You should be prepared to seek the support of others, where necessary.

Information Management & Communication: You will have the ability to analyse data supplied on maps from a variety of sources and be able to identify request which need further investigation. Any anomalies will need to be cleared before passing to the field drawing team for amending field boundaries.

You will need good oral and written communication skills and be able to deal confidently and effectively with a wide range of enquiries from various stakeholders. You will have excellent keyboard skills to ensure accuracy when inputting, amending and updating data onto the FIS computer system.

Customer Service: You will be working with a range of mainly external stakeholders and you will be required to provide a professional point of contact. You will deal with any enquiries quickly and accurately and maintain integrity, impartiality and fairness at all time.
