Communications Officer IEA
The Institute of Economic Affairs is looking to recruit a Communications Officer who will work across the areas of media, e-comms and public affairs. The role reports to the Communications Director.
Key tasks will include:
- Managing the IEA’s website.
- Drafting and sending out media releases and e-newsletters.
- Providing administrative support, including organising mail-outs, tracking media appearances etc.
- Co-ordinating the IEA’s social media activity.
- Organising events, such as media briefings and party conference panel discussions.
- Representing the IEA at events and meetings.
- Writing articles on various topics.
- Filming and editing videos.
- Design work.
- Developing and implementing communication plans for the release of publications.
- Building relationships with key stakeholders, including MPs and journalists.
Person specification
Essential
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to distil complex and technical arguments succinctly and clearly.
- Organised and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.
- Willing to work long and sometimes unsocial hours.
- 2:1 degree in a relevant subject.
- An understanding of and commitment to free-market ideas and arguments.
Desirable
- Experience working in media communications for a think tank, pressure group, charity or similar organisation or in Parliament as a researcher.
- Experience using social media.
- Strong journalistic contacts in the British media – or a proven ability to quickly build and develop these contacts.
- An ability to use (or willingness to learn how to use) design software.
- Experience in filming and editing video material.
- An understanding and appreciation of branding and design.
Salary: Salary from £20K, full time + benefits
