Director: Engineering and Technical Support

Remuneration package: R 685 200 per annum (A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs).

Requirements:
Minimum educational qualification:

  • A degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Registration with the ECSA as a Professional Engineer. Experience:
  • Extensive experience in Hospital Engineering with a focus on maintenance
  • Applicants who do not have a degree or registration, but have an appropriate technical qualification together with very extensive experience and the proven ability to manage hospital engineering service in the healthcare sector, may be considered.

Inherent requirements of the job:

  • Working outside of normal office hours, travel and overnight stays away from home
  • Being contactable 24 hours per day by cellular telephone
  • Physically fit and able to inspect buildings and machinery (walking over rough ground, climbing ladders, etc.)
  • A valid driver’s licence (Code B). Competencies (knowledge/skills):
  • In-depth knowledge of management and administrative processes in the Public Service
  • Expertise in the broad field of Hospital Engineering
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Expertise in managing maintenance engineering workshops
  • Knowledge of the built environment professions (Engineering, Architecture and Quantity Surveying)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication ability
  • Leadership abilities
  • The ability to produce reports of a high standard
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform a detailed and critical performance analysis
  • Knowledge of the PFMA, procurement procedures and tender regulations
  • The ability to think laterally and implement innovative solutions
  • A high level of computer literacy.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):

  • Provide effective, efficient and affordable Hospital and Clinical Engineering Services
  • Provide a Health Technology (medical equipment) Advisory Service
  • Provide effective, efficient and economical Laundry Services
  • Provide Occupational and Equipment Safety Services
  • Provide and maintain a Performance Monitoring and Evaluation system
  • Ensure effective provision of generic functions (FM, HRM, SCM, LR, HRD).
Note: The person appointed to this position will be subjected to a security clearance and possibly a competency assessment test. Appointment will be subjected to the signing of a performance agreement and an employment contract.
