Director of Science Based London

Salary: £52,000 - £65,000 per annum plus London Market Allowance of £3,300 per annum.

The Science and Sustainability team is located in the Education and Society Strategic Business Unit of the British Council. As the Council’s thought leader in this area, the Director of Science will be responsible for working with key UK stakeholders and partners, setting corporate policy in science and sustainability, engaging senior managers located across the Council’s global network and the other strategic business units responsible for Arts and for English, and setting strategy for the international promotion of UK science.

We are looking for an individual with the following attributes:

• PhD in the natural sciences and experience of research engagement;
• Strong understanding of science policy in the UK and in relation to the internationalisation of science and technology;
• Professional credibility and standing with key stakeholders and the ability to identify and develop strategic relationships with appropriate partners in the academic, policy and business communities;
• Leadership skills and direct experience of management or policy making
