The Equal Rights Trust (ERT) is seeking a highly-qualified expert to fill a new position of Head of Development

The Equal Rights Trust (ERT) is an independent international organisation, whose purpose is to combat discrimination and promote equality as a fundamental human right and a basic principle of social justice. Based in London, ERT is a growing charity running projects in 20+ countries around the world. Reporting to the Executive Director and supported by all staff, the Head of Development will work on all aspects of strategic development, fundraising and donor relations for a dynamic international organisation at the forefront of equality and human rights advocacy. Through a combination of initiative, imagination and hard work, the post-holder will help ERT’s sustainable development, maintaining and expanding a stable, diverse and well-balanced range of funding sources and networks. The post-holder will support the Executive Director in designing the vision, setting the objectives and deciding development priorities for the Trust. The position is based in London.
Key Responsibilities
· Developing fundraising strategies;
· Research and identify new funding opportunities, including trusts and foundations, governmental agencies, corporate donors and individuals, and match ERT interests with their funding agendas;
· Identify and manage appropriate approaches to funders, including through organizing meetings;
· Draft letters of inquiry to potential funders, concept notes and full proposals, with input from all other ERT staff;
· Edit and/or finalise letters of inquiry, concept notes and full proposals;
· Coordinate the Trust’s participation in calls for proposals from international organisations, bilateral donors and private foundations;
· Coordinate the submitting of applications, in compliance with funders’ rules and deadlines;
· Coordinate grant reporting according to grant requirements and within agreed deadlines;
· Organise events, in consultation with the Communications Officer, to raise the profile of ERT and create possibilities for recruiting supporters;
· Identify possibilities for matching funding for ERT’s existing projects as required by contracts concluded by ERT and its funders;
· Maintain the Trust’s Fundraising Grid and draft analytical notes on the status of funding;
· Maintain a filing and tracking system on all grant contracts;
· Develop and maintain a data base of supporters and friends of the Trust;
· Use social and other media to involve ERT supporters in campaigns.
Required Qualifications
· Experience in fundraising for charities comparable to ERT.
· Skills in writing grant applications to private, public and intergovernmental donors.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Desirable Qualifications
· Familiarity with funding opportunities and procedures in the area of equality, human rights, social justice and development.
· Experience in charity development and management.
· Familiarity with equality, human rights and social justice issues.
· Financial skills, including budgeting and reporting.
· Proven record of success in fundraising for a charity.
Salary and Benefits: £34,000-£40,000 p.a. depending on experience and qualifications, and employer-paid benefits.
