FP 7 (Final Grade and Salary to be confirmed by Washington based on applicant’s qualifications and prior work experience).

The Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) office, at the U.S. Embassy in London, is in search of a customer focused Immigration Assistant.

Duties will include:

  • giving guidance and information to the public regarding the proper filing of petitions and applications and other immigration matters;
  • providing a variety of clerical and administrative support functions;
  • reviewing and researching varied routine USCIS immigration applications and petitions;
  • offering technical and administrative support in maintaining complete and accurate written records and electronic files and databases.

Qualifications Required:

Education:

US High School Diploma, 4 GCSE’s or an equivalent academic qualification is required.

Prior Work Experience:

Progressively responsible experience in work involving face to face customer service experience in an administrative/clerical role is required.

Language Proficiency:

Level IV (fluent) in English is required.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of office management procedures and basic administrative office procedures is required. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Excel) and web-based applications and databases is required. An understanding of the importance of customer service and the fundamental principal of confidentiality required in a USCIS environment is required.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer care skills are required. Ability to shift priorities and meet deadlines is required. Ability to work as part of a team is required. Ability to draft correspondence in a clear, concise and grammatically correct manner is required. Ability to work accurately and pay close attention to detail is required. Strong Microsoft Office skills are required. Ability to maintain focus when performing basic and routine tasks (i.e. filing and data entry) is required. Ability to resolve conflict amicably and professionally if/when it arises is required. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with team members and internal and external contacts is required. Ability to independently organize and execute work is required. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required. Ability to utilize internet based training programs and retain the information taught and subsequently apply those skills taught is required. Possess excellent customer care and interpersonal skills, good judgement and sensitivity in dealing with distressed or demanding customers is required. Ability to explain and apply routine regulations and to follow clear direction is required. The ability to work accurately is required. Ability to type 40-wpm is required. Able to periodically travel for up to one week to attend conferences and training in support of the USCIS mission is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required.
