Salary:
£21,207 gross starting salary per annum, (consisting of: basic salary- £17,638, London weighting- £2,100 and bonus- £1,469). Plus discounted health care plan.

U.S. Embassy, London, is in search of a skilled Laborer/Trades Helper who will be employed in a general labor capacity, carrying out tasks such as the movement of furniture and equipment, to include:

  • dismantling and reassembling modular workstations;
  • replacing lighting bulbs and tubes;
  • escorting contractors and assisting Embassy tradesmen, as required, in both the Chancery and residential properties;
  • performing driving duties, using the maintenance vans;
  • operating fork lifts, electrical hoist platforms for both external and internal use, zip up scaffolding apparatus and lighting tube disposal units – all to conform to local Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements;
  • preparing work for painting projects, as required.

Qualifications Required:

Education:

No formal qualifications are required.

Prior Work Experience:

Experience in general small building works in a building/construction office block environment is required.

Language Proficiency:

Level II – Limited knowledge of written and spoken English is required.

Knowledge:

Some knowledge of the safe operation of ladders, high level platforms, forklifts, and internal and external electric and hydraulic hoists is required.

Skills and Abilities:

The ability to understand clear instructions is required. The ability to work in and be a part of a maintenance team is required. The ability to work effectively both alone and with other colleagues is required. A current full (manual) UK/EU/EEA driver’s license is required. The ability to safely and confidently operate a van (class B) in and around central London is required. Be able to move heavy loads (i.e. 20 kilos in weight) and furniture in a safe manner is required. Incumbent must have good customer relation skills.
