CI’s Ecosystem Finance Division offers diverse mechanisms designed to support field-level conservation and ensure economic benefits to local communities.

The Web Manager has primary responsibility for the Ecosystem Finance Division’s digital communications mediums, with a focus on individual fund Web sites, e-newsletters and other targeted online communications for key publics and investors. The web manager is also responsible for creating and ensuring the success of strategic initiatives and partnerships to deepen, expand and leverage the division’s online communications to a wider audience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with multiple conservation funds to develop new content and keep existing content fresh, up-to-date and relevant. Help set communication goals for each fund’s site and ensure that they are met. Develop site structure, page structure and navigation, and act as all-around Web consultant to internal customers, providing guidance on information architecture principles and user experience best practices. Safeguard the funds’ reputations and brands by ensuring the quality of Web products and their compliance with strategic messaging and design standards.
  • Write and edit Web copy as needed, including titles, headers, teases, captions and short blog posts. Maintain Web content on content management system (CMS), currently MS SharePoint. Project-manage the delivery of visual Web assets in support of communication goals, such as maps, web graphics, interactive experiences or Web videos. This will include taking part in concept development, coordinating production with internal or external resources, reviewing, testing and embedding the final product on a Web page.
  • Lead the division’s Web projects, such as visual redesigns, structural redesigns, user experience testing, migration to new platforms, and other projects as needed. Coordinate closely with the IT department and the Web team in CI’s Global Communications Department on institution-wide Web updates, redesigns or other changes.
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve Web sites, community outreach and other online presence efforts. This includes monitoring internal and external news to seize upon opportunities to develop fresh content and finding new ways to utilize Web technology to showcase the funds’ work and facilitate information exchange among partners and grantees.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Chiefly an office position involving typical office activities such as typing, use of communications software, participation in meetings, etc. Domestic or international travel is possible but infrequent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, English, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a Web-related position such as Web production, Web management, content development, technical development, Web writing, social media management, Web strategy.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with limited supervision while also being able to work successfully with others as part of a multi-discipline team.
  • Solid understanding of online marketing and communication concepts.
  • Excellent Web writing and editing skills.
  • Good conceptual and visual skills: ability to mock up a layout and evaluate a design.
  • Experience with Web project magement and Web workflows.
  • Experience with a large-scale design or redesign of site.
  • Familiarity with information architecture, site mapping and page-level layout.
  • Proven ability to work well with multiple content owners and subject matter experts.
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
  • Intermediate front-end coding skills: ability to hand code, write/troubleshoot standard-compliant HTML/CSS; process photos using Photoshop or Illustrator and encode video for the Web.
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization.
  • Familiarity with Web analytics (Google Analytics, Omniture, WebTrends, etc.).
  • Experience editing audio and video for use on Web.
  • Intermediate Desktop Publishing Skills.
Preferred:
  • Advanced degree in communications, marketing or a related field
  • French, Spanish or other non-English speaking/reading skills related to fund geographies
