Manager, Strategic Outreach United States - Hawaii

The Strategic Outreach Manager collaborates with the CI Development, Global Marine and Hawaii Fish Trust (HFT) teams to create and implement strategies for the ongoing cultivation and stewardship of donors, prospects and HFT Advisory Council members. Establishes cultivation and engagement strategies for local (non-fisheries) partner organizations. This is a part-time position responsible for conductiong donor calls to cultivate relationships with donors and prospects. S/he will also be responsible for maintaing ongoing contact with past and current donors, with the goal of increased giving levels and access to extended networks of friends and donor prospects and conductiong baseline research on regional prospects to determine appropriate donor management level.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages donor relations and develops major gifts fundraising strategy.
  • Manages cultivation events such as partner-based lecture series, donor and prospect field trips, and local receptions.
  • Works with CI Major Gifts team, Foundation Relations and Global Marine staff to provide consistent messaging and outreach regarding Hawaii Fish Trust
  • Manages Advisory Council logistics and strategy, in conjunction with Hawaii Fish Trust Director
  • Drafts and edits reports, proposals and routine correspondence to donors, prospects and funding organizations

Working Conditions:

  • This is a part-time position based on Hawaii Island
  • Occasional interisland travel is required

QUALIFICAITONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field and minimum 3 years’ related work experience in conservation non-profit organizations, or equivalent combination.
  • Proven experience building relationships with donors, partners, and all levels of staff.
  • Proven experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
  • Proven experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving
  • Proven experience in managing, and tracking, multiple prospects and donors.
  • Proven experience managing projects with multiple partners and stakeholders
  • Major gifts or other fundraising experience
  • Ability to design, implement, and direct fundraising initiatives, including individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships.
  • Ability to understand and communicate island ecology and HawaiÊ»i marine ecology
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of CI to diverse groups including donors, corporate executives, Advisory Council members and others who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with a wide range of people – the public, organizational leadership, influential donors, prospects, and others.
  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships with development and global marine teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both business and conservation sectors
  • Ability to bring diverse partners together for common goals

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Hawai’i donors, prospects and partners
