Manager, Web Content United States

The Web Content Manager is responsible for planning and delivering fresh and compelling content for www.conservation.org and related websites and social media platforms. The position reports to the Director, Web Content and Strategy within the Marketing + Communications division.

The Web Content Manager assists the Director, Web Content and Strategy in developing a content roadmap for the website and in planning and executing the strategy. Primary responsibilities include working with key stakeholders to develop new web content and keep existing web content fresh, relevant and in line with communications goals. This includes performing gap analysis, helping to develop site structure, writing/editing copy, identifying necessary visual communication pieces such as maps, graphics or interactive elements and project-managing the delivery of these assets. The Web Content Manager will also become familiar with the CMS and be able to build their own pages as needed. Additional duties include participating in major web projects such as visual redesigns, functionality changes, platform migrations, etc. and performing other web-related duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consult with internal customers to develop new content and keep exising content fresh, up-to-date and relevant.
  • Act as all-around web consultant to internal customers and provide guidance on information architecture principles and user experience best practices.
  • Manage web projects including developing site structure, page structure, navigation and content.
  • Write and edit web copy as needed, including short blog posts, titles, headers, teases and captions.
  • Maintain web content on content management system (CMS), currently MS SharePoint.
  • Project-manage the delivery of visual web assets in support of communication goals, such as maps, web graphics, interactive experiences or web videos (includes taking part in concept development, coordinating production with internal or external resources, reviewing, testing and embedding the final product on a web page).
  • Work closely with the Web Director to develop the website roadmap from a visual, content and functional viewpoint.
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve website, community outreach and other online presence efforts. This includes monitoring internal and external news to seize upon opportunities to develop fresh web or blog content and finding new ways to utilize web technology to showcase CI’s work.
  • Participate in global web projects such as visual redesigns, structural redesigns, user experience testing, migration to new platforms, and other projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, English, Marketing, or related
  • 3-5 years of experience in a web-related position such as web production, content development, web writing, social media management, web strategy, etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of online marketing and communication concepts
  • Comfort with fast-paced information flows and complex issues
  • Excellent web writing and editing skills
  • Good conceptual and visual skills: ability to mock up a layout and evaluate a design
  • Experience with web project magement and web workflows
  • Familiarity with information architecture, site mapping and page-level layout
  • Proven ability to work well in a team, with multiple content owners and subject matter experts
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS)
  • Basic to proficient front-end coding skills: ability to write/troubleshoot standard-compliant HTML/CSS and process photos

Preferred:

  • Passionate and knowledgeable about conservation and sustainable development issues
  • Experience with blogging, audio production, video production and social networking platforms

  • Experience supporting a non-profit website
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French
