Mine Closure Manager
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The incumbent is accountable for management of the planning and decommissioning process, as well as the subsequent disposal, re-use and restoration/rehabilitation works until closure in line with the requirements of the Malian Government and in terms of AngloGold Ashanti's environmental policy.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A relevant post-graduate qualification in Mining Engineering, Project Management and Environmental Sciences (preferably Masters Degree).
- Extensive experience in managing mine closure and decommissioning projects
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Emotional Intelligence
- Adequately experienced to maintain credibility with senior operations management, joint venture partners and government officials
- Adequately matured as a person with interpersonal skills to influence people and the business
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE:
This incumbent would be accountable for the following:
- Development of the Project Charter reflecting the project objectives and project deliverables.
- Development and implementation of a closure project plan, in consultation with mine management and AngloGold Ashanti corporate office, to guide decommissioning and restoration/rehabilitation activities.
- Development of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to the level at which control will be exercised, as a baseline scope document.
- Coordinating the development and implementation of key project work packages, including infrastructure decommissioning plan, leach pad rinsing, environmental rehabilitation plan, human resources plan, social closure plan etc.
- Reviewing and refining closure cost estimates, scheduled start and finish dates (schedule), and responsibility assignments for each deliverable within the WBS to the level at which control will be exercised.
- Development and implementation of a project monitoring and evaluation plan to track major milestones and target dates for each.
- Development and implementation of a risk management plan, including key risks, constraints and assumptions, planned responses and contingencies (where appropriate) for each.
- Development and implementation of a project communication strategy including internal and external stakeholders.
- Development and implementation of subsidiary management plans, namely: scope management plan, schedule management plan, cost management plan, quality management plan, staffing management plan and procurement management plan.
- Carry-on leadership role within Closure Steering Committee and ensure alignment with National Closure Commission.
