Save the Children in Nigeria

Save the Children in Nigeria Country activity is expanding rapidly, especially its nutrition, maternal, child and newborn health programmes. Save the Children’s work currently covers nine states with potential expansion of SC activities into other two new states in the North. The programme’s headquarters is in Abuja with Offices in Katsina (plus satellite base in Daura), Kaduna, Kano. We work directly in the States and through partners. This position manages the overall operations and programme delivery aspects of the country programme.

Safety and Security Adviser

You will develop and ensure the systematic application of safety and security management policies and procedures in all of SCUK operational areas of Nigeria. This will include the assessment of threats and provision of advice to manage risk; the maintenance and updating of security guidelines and ensuring that field security working practices are robust and that all staff are aware of, trained in, and adhere to security management policy, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Integral to the post is the ability to work successfully with field teams to cultivate capacity and motivation thereby ensuring field-based responsibility for security analysis and management. As the ideal candidate you will have a minimum of 3 years practical field experience in security management/leadership role (e.g. direct INGO security management, police, military) in challenging or insecure environments, with sound knowledge of personnel and organizational security issues, threat/risk assessment, security management and awareness; Previous experience of working in a complex and challenging environment with a sound ability to access and manage security situations and to develop personal security and evacuation procedures; and An excellent track record of training, managing and developing staff in safety and security principles and procedures. A valid Nigerian work permit will be required for this position.
