Science and Innovation Manager Juice Technology

Position Overview:

Lead the strategic development of unique juice technology and innovation projects for Global
product application in the Juice Category.

Manage and conduct a Research and Development function in Juice Innovation in the Global Juice R&D Department to:
• Lead and manage multiple innovation projects for long term pipeline development in the Juice Category to utilize new and unique juice technologies, processes, ingredients, products and equipment.
• Conceive, conduct and direct innovation/science programs on strategic juice ingredients important to the company business, i.e. juice solids, flavors, by-products and juice beverage ingredients.
• Work cross-functionally with various groups to identify and develop new opportunities in the juice category to grow the juice business in Coca-Cola globally, including the regional Business Units, Corporate Science and R&D partners, Global Juice Center Marketing, Global Juice R&D, and Outside Technology partners.
• Provide a Global and North America business leadership role to develop and influence company strategies for growth of the juice beverage category.
• Develop and leverage relationships with industry and academic associations/agencies to gain access to new technology and to influence their research programs to provide a competitive advantage to company products.

Key Job Responsibility:

• Develop new juice technologies and innovative juice products for The Coca-Cola Co.
• Link a Juice Innovation Program with the Business Unit Innovation Directors to support the Business Growth Plans
• Use Creative expertise to identify and develop new competitive opportunities in the juice category
• Build a global juice category innovation program with global R&D juice SME’s.
• Work closely with internal and external science/technology sources to create and develop innovative new juice products to build a 3—5 year pipeline.

• Work with the Apopka Juice R&D team to manage and conduct applied research projects for innovation and problem solving solutions to the Global Juice business.
• Maintain and provide Technical Stewardship for juice products and ingredient issues worldwide through the Global Juice Center and Master Blender Network.
• Professionally communicate juice R&D science and technology programs to business leadership for support and strategy building.

Expertise:

• Functional: Expertise in Beverage Science & Technology and juice chemistry, flavor science, Juice product development for all juices, juice processing and sourcing, sensory science methods and consumer research.
• Strong Ingredient and Product/Process technology for beverage category, especially juice category.
• Creative mindset to identify and develop new and unique opportunities for the juice business.
• Leadership & Management: Experience in technical personnel management, good communication and presentation skills for all personnel levels. Ability to interact with business and cultural differences between TCCC and Suppliers and industry/academic partners.
• Business: Knowledge of complete juice business cross-functional systems, including: Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Corporate Research and Consumer Research. Understand effects of technical decisions and policies on success of business and Brand identity and management.

Delivering Solutions:

• Consumer Quality: Technical influence and direction to provide superior and consistent juice beverage quality to maintain leadership in the juice category. Good knowledge of consumer marketing, branding, sensory testing and effects of product quality and profile on consumer benefit and profitability.
• Problem Solving: Technical expertise in Beverage Science and Technology to provide solutions and be proactive to juice supply and processing issues which may result in quality or stability concerns and consumer complaints
• Research strategy: Provide and implement short and long term strategies to create new technology in juice beverages to continue to provide competitive advantage to orange juice category.

Impact:

• Influence: To guide the juice strategy for the North America Division and Global Juice categories. To provide technical leadership to juice suppliers to guide supply quality and specifications.
• Decision Making: Expertise and experience in trouble shooting and technical guidance to demonstrate confidence in decision making.
• Independent Judgment: Confidence to provide guidance and make decisions for Brand protection and policies. Risk assessment to quality and business decisions for juice category.

Resource Management:

• Project Management: Capable of managing projects from beginning to end and managing cross functional activities to assure project completion and execution.
• Research Management: ability to manage both internal and external research programs to develop and implement new technologies.
• Financial Management: Ability to assess financial implications and risk of critical decisions.

Leadership:

• Strategic Planning: Building strong relationships with key decision makers to juice business in North America Division and Global Juice Center. Providing leadership as Juice Subject Matter Expert to entire TCCC system.
• Long Term Development: Grow the Innovation capabilities of the Global Juice center

Education: Master’s Degree or PhD in Food Science or related degree

Years of Experience: 5-10 years in beverage industry – preferably Juice Beverages

Additional Information:

This role will lead and conduct juice beverage development and science Research programs to identify new and unique business opportunities for the Coca-Cola Co. with Global and North America Business units. This position will help build a category pipeline for global juice opportunities and link to all regional Juice Product Developers to identify and develop new technology for the juice business. This is a new role within the R&D organization to build dedicated resources for long term innovation.
