Scientist II Microbiology United States

Position Overview:

Prepare samples and sampling plan for ingredients, intermediate or finished products, or other materials in order to perform.

• Identify, classify, maintain, and protect files, documentation and sensitive information consistent with record handling and retention requirements.
• Record data from analyses or experiments in a computer, log book or laboratory notebook.
• Protect the Company and all Company information against unauthorized disclosure, eavesdropping and legal exposure.
• Design, develop, conduct and/or review microbiological challenge/inoculation study experiments in order to deliver new products; evaluate ingredient, product or packaging safety, efficacy or claims; or evaluate new ingredients, materials, products or processes.
• Interpret data from routine and non-routine analyses in order to validate that ingredients/materials meet Company specifications.
• Develop or validate microbiological laboratory test methods or equipment in order to ensure reliability and accuracy of analytical results.
Technical skills:
• Basic Microbiology: Basic knowledge of food and water microbiology used to make judgments about the safety of ingredients, beverages, manufacturing techniques, packaging and storage conditions.
• Perform microbiological methodologies in order to determine viable organisms or total counts and to support challenge studies. Methods include microscopy, pour plate, membrane filtration, media preparation, microorganism culture maintenance
• Calibration: Ability to measure instrument variations and apply corrections for ensuring the accuracy and precision of an instrument or measurement tool.
• Ingredients: Knowledge of key ingredients used in production of concentrates and beverage bases (e.g., caramel, citric acid, benzoate, juice, phosphoric acid, maltodextrin).
• Laboratory Practices: Knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practices (e.g., handling of chemicals and glassware, preparation of standards and reagents, proper measuring techniques, data management, housekeeping).

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience: At least 2 years.
