Assistant Manager L&A:Legal Services Sasol - Johannesburg Area, South Africa
Purpose of the Job:
To provide certain non-legal support services and perform administrative and coordination functions
essential for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the work of Legal and Compliance Services
including performance management processes, training and development programmes, budget
compilation and management, . To contribute to the optimisation of systems and processes used for
the functioning of Legal and Compliance Services.
Required Outputs:
- Participate in Financial Planning and coordinate all budget input for the preparation of draft
budgets for Legal and Compliance Services to be submitted to the Legal Management Forum for
consideration;
- Exercise cost control and circulate periodic reports on budget performance;
- Oversee efficient and effective performance management within Legal and Compliance Services
by:
* circulating relevant information and notices on performance management requirements, and
monitoring compliance with the requirements,
* proposing key indicators for the substantive effectiveness of performance management within
Legal and Compliance Services. The indicators must be approved by the Legal Management
Forum,
* monitoring implementation of the system,
* evaluating the impact of the system with reference to the indicators, and
* submitting periodic comprehensive assessment reports to supervisor and relevant
recommendations for consideration by the Legal Management Forum;
- Keep all records of performance management within Legal and Compliance Services while
protecting the confidentiality of such records;
- Provide support to the Sasol Legal Academy by undertaking functions including:
* the management of all learning platforms and knowledge resources which support Legal and
Compliance Services,
* the coordination of training programmes,
* liaison with relevant functions within Sasol Group Services and third parties in accordance with
mandates from the supervisor, to effectively and efficiently achieve objectives of the Legal
Academy, and
* the compilation of periodic activity reports and reports on the evaluation of effectiveness of the
training and development programmes and initiatives;
- Oversee knowledge management within Legal and Compliance Services and coordinate the
compilation of internal publications (including newsletters and legal updates)
- Administer the Legal and Compliance Services. process for monitoring and evaluating the use of
external legal counsel and develop templates for monthly reports in this regard;
- Monitor and track the costs of legal professional services and circulate monthly standard reports
as well as reports required from time to time on these costs;
- Provide administrative and technical support for the:
* strategic and planning processes of Legal and Compliance Services,
* development and implementation of service level agreements with business clients, and
* implementation of surveys and benchmarking exercises; and
- Perform all such duties as may be requested by the supervisor from time to time.

Job Requirements:
Qualification and expertise required:
- An LLB or equivalent qualification, preferably an admitted attorney
- 3-5 years working experience in a legal office environment with exposure to administration and
management support functions
