Communications Officer Change.org Spain
Change.org is seeking a Communications Officer to join our team to assist with all press, messaging, monitoring and external communications on the world’s fastest growing online platform for social change.
Change.org offers the world’s most powerful organizing tools to every potential citizen-activist and NGO. Change.org currently empowers millions of people around the world start, join and win campaigns for social change on the issues they care about in their community, city, or country. With over 500,000 new users joining every month, we are the fastest growing platform for change in the world.
The Communications Officer will bring their experience to help take our media and communications work to the next level. You will report directly to the Director of Communications.
Specifically your responsibilities will include:
• Develop new, innovative and creative tactics to effectively use media attention as leverage to help win campaigns and generate earned media.
• Develop and help implement a comprehensive and effective strategy for local and national press outreach for campaigns started on the Change.org platform, and advise our campaigns team on local and national media outreach.
• Write and edit excellent press materials.
• Build and foster relationships with well-established print and broadcast media as well as influential online outlets, social media leaders and bloggers.
• Implement comprehensive public relations and communications plans, with attention to developing, differentiating and raising the profile of the Change.org brand.
The ideal candidate should have the following:
• A deep commitment to our mission of empowering people everywhere to win campaigns on the critical issues of our times.
• Innovative ideas for how to use communications and media to win local, national, and international campaigns.
• Fiercely good writing skills, with the ability to create extremely high quality copy on very tight deadlines.
• Insightful understanding of messaging and framing, and the judgement to repeatedly find the right message to engage campaign targets, journalists or Change.org members.
• Past success in attracting national media attention as well as the ability to smoothly manage the most senior of media relations.
• Experience in press and communications for advocacy, political and/or nonprofit organisations is preferred but not required.
• A strong grasp of politics, the political process and current social justice, economic and environmental issues within Spain and globally.
Candidates must be entrepreneurial self-starters excited to join an ambitious, fast moving organization working for social change. Regardless of experience, we are looking for a passionate, hard-working, organized and detailed-oriented person who has excellent writing and interpersonal skills and wants to be part of an organization working to change the world.
We prefer applicants living in or ready to move to Madrid. For the right folks, the salary and benefits are very competitive. An outstanding level of English proficiency is required.
