Senior Consultant, South Africa VMware

The PSO team ensures that VMware customers are successfully implementing their business plans from adoption all the way to a fully functioning virtualized datacenter. The VMware PSO team includes Implementation/Managed Services, Project/Engagement Management, Education Services, Partner Management and Technical Account Management (TAM) Services.
Why work with our group: As a VMware Consultant, you will provide customers technical leadership in the installation, configuration, and implementation of VMware products and services. You will help to document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for best practices by customers and partners. This group gives the consultant the opportunity to work in most of the top Fortune 500 companies in the world. Services include (but not limited to) Operational Readiness, Business Continuance, Disaster Recovery, and Storage, and IT services Delivery.
Job Description Build and maintain confidence of colleagues and customers
Independently conduct small to medium engagements with customers
Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware product line
Conduct pre-packaged VMware consulting solutions in a timely and effective manner
Assist in the development of standard reusable VMware productized consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard estimates
Help to document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for reuse by customers and partners
- Relevant years of IT experience which at least part of that should be working with server virtualization technologies
- Strong Microsoft Server Operating System design and or administration experience required
- At least 2 years experience in customer-facing positions as a professional services consultant
- Several years experience in infrastructure architecture and design of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques, recovery/rollback.
- Experience with desktop virtualization (View, Citrix desktop) is advantageous but not required
- Unix or Linux systems administration skills desirable
- Experience of working with Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting providers is advantageous
- Sound understanding of network and storage management principals required
- Familiarity with systems management concepts and processes such as capacity/performance management and tuning;
- Understanding of modern IT production datacenter
- Scripting experience in PowerCli/Powershell desirable
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel between 50-60 percent of the time, including international
- VCP4 or VCP5 strongly preferred
