Health Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

Building on the health baseline research report; the selected candidate will lead the development of core programme outcomes, outputs and indicators for the 2012-2016 GOAL Kenya Country Strategic Plan Supervise and support the GK health team and support the integration of health programming across GK’s programme sectors (Livelihoods, Child Empowerment and Protection and Emergency Programming) Identify funding opportunities with institutional donors (DFID, USAID, Irish Aid and others) for new programmes and help secure funds to support new initiatives. Maintain knowledge of current research, trends and good practices in health programming, including donor trends and key actors in Kenya’s health sector; and disseminate relevant information to the GK programme team Participate in key coordination meetings at the national and international levels, including but not limited to the UN Health Cluster, Nutrition Cluster, Sector Working Groups and others as necessary Oversee the monitoring, evaluation and reporting on all GK health activities Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for submission to the ACD-P and the Country Director Support training and performance assessment of all GK health staff Assist with collection and analysis of data for KAPB, MICS, internal evaluations and other surveys Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience: A Master’s degree in Public Health or related discipline. 3-5 years’ experience managing health programmes (preferably in Kenya) Excellent knowledge of principles in project planning and management Self-motivated team player team player with a proven ability to think creatively, work independently and support the growth and development of a strong team Outstanding communication skills (oral and written) in English and Swahili Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Strong knowledge of and familiarity with subjects related to reproductive health, family planning, HIV/AIDS and other and other areas related to health Knowledge of good practices in monitoring and evaluation, research and learning To apply for the above position, please send your CV by email, listing three reference including your last direct supervisor and salary expectation to keapplications [at] ke.goal.ie. Country » South Sudan Area Health Manager General Description of the Role: The Area Health Manager will manage the implementation of the integrated Primary Health Care programme, including Curative health, EPI, reproductive health, outbreak preparedness and response, nutrition, health promotion and health training activities in Twic. S/he will ensure that programme implementation progresses in line with the proposals and agreed timelines. Key Duties: To oversee the planning, implementation and development of the Integrated Health Programme in Twic To be responsible for meeting the health programme’s objectives in Twic, including directing and supervising the Curative, RH, Nutrition and Community Health Promotion teams To work closely with GOAL South Sudan programme with a view to incorporating relevant MoH capacity building and support mechanisms into the Twic programme to enable smooth transition To develop, in conjunction with Health Coordinator & Area Coordinator, programme management plans (PMP) aimed at achieving the programme’s objectives. To oversee the timely implementation of programme activity plans and to track health related grant expenditure in conjunction with Health Coordinator and Finance Department. To oversee direct management of Twic health staff, including recruitment, supervision and training and building the capacity at field level with GOAL and MoH health staff through mentoring and training. Key duties Assume overall management for all nutrition activities, ensuring they are implemented in line with donor proposals and verify that the GOAL nutrition response remains closely aligned to the needs in this rapidly evolving emergency. Work in close coordination with the Nutrition Coordinator, HRP management team and ACD Programs in order to; 1. Help develop any nutrition related proposals and program strategies (as necessary) 2. Ensure a tightly integrated programme approach with any other GOAL support activities; 3. Ensure close coordination with local partners and ensure that community leaders are involved in the decision making process. 4. Work in close coordination with any other operational sectors either implemented by GOAL or other partners (such as WASH, Health etc) ensuring a tight integrated response is developed across all sectors and natural cross-cutting themes are embedded into each other's programs. Provide technical support to GOAL staff, in consultation with the Nutrition Coordinator, HRP management team and ACD Programs. This support will include: 1. Helping to recruit a newly operational nutrition team to be located in a Dollo Odo refugee camp 2. Training of all new nutrition staff working in Dollo Odo refugee camp and assessing their ability to provide key nutritional services to a requisite level (including the provision of high level technical curative care, effective management of supply chains and timely data collection & reporting). 3. Overseeing the procurement and pre-positioning of all appropriate materials for the full complement of nutrition activities to be implemented by GOAL (including information education communication (IEC) materials) 4. Building capacity of key staff who will ultimately responsible for delivering programs o Nurture and capacity build national Nutrition Program Manager who will take over responsibility for the management of the operation within 1-3 months 5. Regular visits to oversee service delivery, conduct on the job training (in conjunction with national Program Manager), identify potential issues and capacity build team to effectively problem solve 6. Ensure the establishment and subsequent maintenance of a comprehensive Nutrition Information System (NIS system) in order to provide accurate, consistent monitoring and evaluation systems, to meet all requisite SPHERE standards and reporting needs 7. Conduct regular analysis of data with feedback to field based health staff and Addis Ababa 8. Responsible for submission of timely donor reports, in coordination with Nutrition Coordinator and HRP Management Representation of GOAL at regional meetings, cultivating close relationships with donors, ministries and other key national stakeholders. To be fully conversant with GOAL policies and guidelines, including HR, finance, administration and security protocols Any other related tasks at the request of the HRP Senior Management team Requirements Nutrition / Public Health Nutrition qualification with at least 3 years post-graduation experience Practical experience working in emergency nutrition programmes for an international NGO with management responsibilities. A clear and proven understanding of all aspects of CMAM (including in-patient care, outpatient care, outreach activities and supplementary feeding programs) with training experience and competence (essential) Experience of working in clinical settings on the treatment of severe acute malnutrition either in Ethiopia or overseas Excellent communication and training skills with track record of building/developing cohesive teams Experience of writing donor proposals, budgets, log-frames and gannt charts with subsequent management of projects thereafter. Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, timetable agreed activities and oversee staff activities. Good team player, flexible and capable of working with a multi-national country team Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations and live in basic conditions Good computer skills, including Word, Excel. DesirableMasters degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or medical background with nutrition Experience Postgraduate study or relevant work experience in Public Health Nutrition Experience of working with Government health system in Ethiopia (an advantage).
