Director - Global Strategy and Planning Amnesty International

For fifty years, we’ve been campaigning for human rights wherever justice, freedom and truth are denied. We’ve reshaped policies, challenged governments and taken corporations to task. And in doing so, we’ve changed thousands of lives for the better. Forging ahead, we’re looking for an exceptional leader with a keen strategic eye, to put high quality plans in place and support the delivery of our global strategy.
About the role
This highly important role will see you leading the development of Amnesty International’s global strategies and operational plans. To make a valuable impact in all regions means working closely with a variety of managers to define effective strategies. But it’s about more than just delivering one solution to fit every human rights situation. It’s about keeping an eye on occurrences across the world and strategically shaping plans and responses accordingly; reporting on performance, reviewing and developing to meet changing needs and planning for future requirements. Beyond that, you’ll lead and educate programme project management teams, you’ll create a clear method for measuring the impact and outcome of our work and you’ll ensure a consistent global approach – improving quality, driving a bigger impact and shaping the future of our success on an international scale.
About you
A true strategist, you’ll have demonstrable skills and substantial experience of managing strategic and operational planning, delivery, and evaluation. Experience that’s backed up by a strong background in human rights or justice work. Thanks to your exceptional leadership skills, you’ll have no problem inspiring, motivating and guiding your teams in a pressurised and ever changing environment. While your communication, presentation and advocacy skills will be second to none, allowing you to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels. But perhaps most important is your ability to focus on the bigger picture – offering solutions that will improve the way we do things for years to come. And, of course, you’ll be genuinely passionate about making a difference.
About us
Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations, human rights education, or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
