Project Assistant in Tanzania

In the preparatory (pilot) phase, the climate change project has two objectives: 1) To strengthen the technical capacities of district-level authorities and civil society actors in the districts of Monduli, Ngorongoro and Longido to design and implement the proposed project and ensure their ‘ownership’ of the process and 2) to secure national level interest in the proposed work including the identification of mechanisms to ensure that project experience informs national policy processes and programs in support of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The Project Assistant will provide the Program Coordinator of the mentioned project with support in the implementation of the project. The main objective of this assignment is to strengthen program coordination in the documentation and preliminary analysis of project learning and the provision of logistical support for the implementation of project activities. As the Project Assistant you will be taking minutes of meetings and workshops and record these in Kiswahili and English and you will be preparing preliminary analysis on content of discussions in meetings. Furthermore it will be your job to collect information on actors and organizations working in the three districts as well as all other relevant information on the districts. Lastly you will provide organizational support to the Program Coordinator.

The Dry Lands programs office will be based in Arusha, and there will be frequent travel to the mentioned districts where the preparatory phase is conducted. To be successful in this assignment, you need to be very accurate and you must be a strong communicator. You like to analyze discussions and you are able to distinguish between essentials and side issues. Furthermore you are a flexible person who is able to foresee the needs of the Program Coordinator and who likes to work closely together with him.

You have obtained a Bachelor’s degree , and you have obtained experience in supporting tasks in projects. You are passionate about the needs for better governance of natural resources in Tanzania. Being fluent in English and Kiswahili is an important requirement.
