Simavi Institutional Fundraising Officer

Simavi is an ambitious and growing development organisation. Together with local partners we improve the health of people in the poorest regions in developing countries. With special attention for mothers as change agents, we take care of safe drinking water, sustainable sanitation, hygiene, access to primary health care, healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries. With more than one hundred partners we offer practical support to communities in nine countries in Africa and Asia.

In the Netherlands, and internationally, we influence the policies of governments and companies to take into account the health of the poorest people. We campaign to engage the general public and involve them in what we do. We are also lead agent of the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Alliance and we are member of the SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) Alliance.

For our Programme Department we are currently looking for an:

Institutional Fundraising Officer

As an Institutional Fundraising Officer for our Programme Department your main responsibility is to create access to a variety of institutional donors and mobilise funding for our activities and those of our partners in Africa and Asia. You will maintain networks and partnerships and facilitate appropriate communications with (potential) donors. To write and submit proposals, meet donor requirements and follow up effectively will be part of your job. You will have to develop and implement a new institutional fundraising strategy well aligned with Simavi’s strategy 2012-2015. The fundraising strategy also has to strengthen and support the capacity of Simavi and its partners to effectively report on a variety of institutional funds in North and South.

You will work in a vibrant team of (senior) Programme Officers and in close collaboration with our Head of Programmes, the Corporate Fundraiser and the Management Team.

Personal skills and competences

  • Academic level with a minimum of 8 years experience with development programmes, preferably in a field relevant to Simavi’s area’s of intervention (water, sanitation and hygiene, access to primary health care as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights)
  • Experience and track record with institutional fundraising and good knowledge of programmatic planning models, monitoring systems, proposal writing and programme reporting
  • Innovative and strategic thinker, capable of finding pragmatic solutions to complex problems
  • Good networker, excellent communicator and interpersonal skills
  • Eye for detail, application of strong financial rigor, discretion and integrity
  • Excellent communication skills in English and good understanding of Dutch language
  • Dutch citizen or in possession of legal entitlement to live and work in the Netherlands
  • Preparedness to travel occasionally to other countries.

Simavi offers

We offer an interesting position in a dynamic and international working environment, with substantial personal freedom in the context of an ambitious and professional team. The gross montly salary is between € 2,426.79 and € 4,211.47 on a fulltime basis of 36 hours and we offer a flexible package of secondary labour conditions. The Simavi office is located in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
