Program Director World Partners in Education Tema, Ghana

World Partners in Education is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to improving the quality of and expanding access to education in under-served areas that empowers people and communities for the future while respecting the local culture and history. To achieve this mission we will partner with educational organizations to pursue locally supported goals, monitor long-term outcomes, and connect communities with needed resources.

WPE is currently implementing and expanding new educational programming to train highly motivated Ghanaian primary school teachers in literacy development. The goal of this programming is to provide teachers with intensive training and coaching in phonics, reading comprehension, critical analysis, and effective pedagogy. The Program Director will be responsible for leading these training sessions, coaching teachers one-on-one, and promoting sustainable change within local school contexts.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as a Program Director in 2013. This individual will be responsible for refining literacy programming curricula, recruiting and selecting local partners, and implementing and monitoring programming in conjunction with Board members and local staff. We are looking for a minimum commitment of one year, ideally longer, to begin on or around January 1st.

Location: Tema, Ghana
Compensation: We will provide room, board, and a grant to cover travel and miscellaneous costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruiting and selecting teachers/schools for program participation
Training teachers on literacy curricula in weekly sessions
In-class coaching of program participants over the course of the program
Facilitating management-focused trainings with partner school headmasters
Leading sustainability efforts through follow-up with former participants
Monitoring, evaluation, and refinement of ongoing programming
Overseeing volunteers
Logistics
Working with local staff and community stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
BA in education, psychology, international development or related field

Experience or strong interest in education, teaching, and/or literacy

Demonstrated success in at least one leadership role
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with others
Enthusiasm for WPE mission and programming
Strong organizational skills and ability to independently manage multiple ongoing assignments
Preferred
Experience with qualitative research and program development
Experience with data collection, monitoring, and evaluation
Experience in project management

Previous international travel or work experience (strongly preferred)
