Monsanto's Seed Production Management Program plays a critical role in ensuring our world-class seed reaches farmers around the globe.  This 3-assignment rotational program is designed to develop future leaders within our Manufacturing organization and involves the following consecutive assignments:
 
Seed Production Management Trainee | 12-16mos in role*
Seed Quality Supervisor | 18-24mos in role*
Operations Supervisor | 24-36mos in role*
 
*NOTE:  Advancement within the program is contingent upon individual performance as well as business need.
 
Locations
The following Monsanto sites are among those that will host our 2013 Class of Seed Production Management Trainees: Constantine, MI, Boone, IA, Beaman, IA, Clarion, IA Kearney, NE, Illiopolis, IL, Dumas, TX, Waco, NE, Farmer City, IL, Grinnell, IA, Waterman, IL, Remington, IN, Aken, TX, Windfall, IN, Marshall, MO, and Redwood Falls, MN.
 
Responsibilities
In the first year of the program, as a Seed Production Management Trainee, you will gain exposure to all aspects of crop production, from planting through harvest - conditioning, treating, packaging and distributing multiple crops including corn, cotton, canola, sorghum, soybeans, and vegetables.  You'll receive continuous learning opportunities and begin to establish a rewarding career.  You will work as part of a team that strives for safety, quality, and diversity of perspectives and cultures.
 
Primary responsibilities of the Seed Management Trainee (Assignment 1 | 12-16mos in role) include:
 
·               Active participation in the Monsanto Environmental, Safety and Health Program
·               Preparing seed field maps
·               Directing inspection of fields for insects, isolation, stand establishment, diseases, weed problems, seed quality, genetic seed purity, yield estimates and moisture
·               Capturing field data using SAP software
·               Directing sampling and quality testing of all seed produced and warehoused
·               Assisting Site Manager during harvest operations to maximize quality
·               Other duties as directed by site management
After successful completion of the Seed Production Management Trainee assignment (12-16 months in role), Trainees transition to the second role within the program, Seed Quality Supervisor (SQS). This position directs, manages and actively participates in elements supporting field, plant and laboratory operations and processes.  Seed Quality Supervisors are responsible for elements related to Quality Testing and the NA Quality Management System. The SQS role is critical to Monsanto's freedom to operate, in ensuring quality products and processes to support a premium product in the marketplace
 
Primary responsibilities of the Seed Quality Supervisor (Assignment 2 | 18-24mos in role) include:
·         Active participation in and leadership within ESH Safety Programs and Quality Management System (QMS) elements
·         Collaborating with site personnel on internal/external audits, trending efforts, non-conformance investigations and associated corrective and/or preventive action.
·         Ensuring compliance with: Global Stewardship and Corporate Quality Management procedures and policies; Crop Level and site specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
·         Field operations such as planting, detasseling, field inspections / mapping, harvest, conditioning, packaging, warehouse / inventory management / distribution, carryover, etc.
·         Quality Testing: sample submission, SAP data entry, management and review for completeness and validity as necessary, sample retain and carryover sample management, lot linkage and tag printing.
·         Partnering with site management to on-board, orient, and develop new talent.
 

 
 
Those successfully mastering the Seed Quality Supervisor role (18-24 months in role) continue into the third role of the program, transitioning to the role of Operations Supervisor.
Operations Supervisors assist Site Managers with all facets of field and production operations in addition to leading on-site safety and quality initiatives.
 
The Operations Supervisor position actively participates in quality, cost and reliability initiatives, including ISO 9002 and Stewardship. This position is also responsible for leading on-site safety documentation and reporting, safety inspections, and promoting a "zero accident tolerance" safety standard.  This assignment ranges from 18-36 months, with advancement contingent upon performance and business need.
 
Additional responsibilities of the Operations Supervisor (Assignment 3 | 24-36mos in role) include: 
·         Supervising Seed Technicians and Temporary Labor
·         Initiating process improvements that drive quality and cost
·         Managing conditioning, treating and packaging schedules and activities
·         Managing warehousing and distribution activities
·         Assisting with recruitment of seasonal and migrant labor
·         Performing other duties as directed by the site manager

Qualifications

 
Monsanto Seed Production Management Program Requirements 
 
·         BS degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Crop Soil Science, Ag Business, or related field of study
·         Ability and willingness to relocate, multiple times if necessary, to accommodate rotational assignments within the first 3 assignments (expenses covered for work-related travel)
·         Outstanding communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means
·         Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skills
·         Results/detail-orientation and the ability to work with a sense of urgency. Capability to work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives
·         Previous experience in agriculture or a strong desire to learn is advantageous
·         Ability to obtain commercial driver's license (CDL) and pesticide applicators license is required
·         Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English are highly-sought
·         Some travel required
·         Prior Seed Production experience is a plus
