Description
Pact is seeking a Senior Fundraising Officer to lead fundraising initiatives internally for the major gifts fundraising program. He/she will work with a reputable fundraising firm or consultant to undertake prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization and assist donors in creating meaning in their lives through giving to Pact. Working closely with senior staff, board members and external fundraising consultants, the Major Gifts Officer will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donors. Additionally, the MGO will be responsible for building awareness and a culture of philanthropy at Pact. Currently a major gift at Pact is defined as any gift of $5,000 or more.

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Together with an external fundraising firm, create a major gifts campaign including identifying prospects and developing ongoing relationships with major donors for the benefit of Pact.
• Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects.
• Responsible for annual fundraising goal as specified in performance standards, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue.
• Implements programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $5,000 level or higher, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for Pact.
• Accountable for cultivating relationships for individual fundraising, organizational fundraising or both as outlined below:
a) Individuals: Cultivates relationships with individual donors personally and by supporting volunteer leaders in peer-to-peer outreach.
b) Organizations: Cultivates, solicits and stewards support from family foundations to meet annual fundraising goals. This includes being proficient at clearly articulating Pact’s value proposition and programs, listening to foundations’ needs and aligning programs to their interests, researching of foundations’ interests, preparing grant proposals and engaging foundation staff and foundation board members to cultivate and solicit support for Pact.
• Develops and executes ongoing strategy for qualifying suspects and moving them to prospect status using tools such as small cultivation events, research and community networking.
• Personally solicits assigned donor portfolio, including preparation of personalized materials when needed.
• Identifies potential planned giving prospects among assigned donors and partners with external fundraising consultants to solicit those prospects.
• Works with Pact Board and other leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward appropriate donors.
• Works collaboratively with other departments and field offices to create customized solicitation strategies matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the donor/prospect.
• Updates donor records.
• Assists in other financial development projects as assigned.
• Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of Pact.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of relevant experience required; advanced degree is highly desirable.
• Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. Excellent verbal and written skills. Knowledge of office systems: MS-Office preferred and fundraising database systems. A team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment and to ensuring the highest customer service orientation.

• Minimum 5 years of successful experience in major gift fundraising. Significant expertise with the area’s funding community highly desirable. Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development.
• Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the five- and six-figure range.
• Experience in leading and managing staff, while executing change.
• Some experience in development operations, annual giving and/or planned giving.
• Background and experience in project management, finance, and data analysis desired.
• Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices. Ability to think strategically to inform and frame plans and execution.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including public speaking; ability to articulate and present clear and persuasive written and verbal communications. Poise and presence to inspire confidence among a broad range of internal and external audiences.
• Understanding of administering budgets. Ability to think strategically and analyze trends; develop short- and long-term projections.
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures and communicate expectations in non-technical terms.
• Ability to work effectively as a team leader as well as independently; ability to train, inspire and motivate volunteers, peers and subordinates.

Additional requirements:
• Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.
• Ability to travel.
• The position requires a commitment to flexibility in daily schedules when Pact hosts special events. Development staff is required to assist with these events and may need to adjust priorities with little notice.
• The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
• The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.
• The position also requires near and far vision for reading and preparing written reports and other required documents.
• Acute hearing is also required when providing phone assistance.
• The need to lift, drag, push and pull files, reports and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
