ICS Project Administrator Volunteer


The ICS Team
Three-month commitment (ideally starting end of November/early December 2012)
Two to three days per week
Based in Brixton, London
Progressio is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to support the International Citizen Service (ICS) programme. You will be assisting the ICS team and supporting volunteers before they depart for overseas placements, where they will carry out community development work for 10 weeks. This will involve providing communications, administrative and social media support.
What sort of tasks will this include?
Tasks will vary, and will include supporting the ICS team by: attending events to talk to young people about ICS and generate interest and encourage applications; being involved in general promotion and ad-hoc social media campaigns (Facebook and Twitter); supporting the ICS Project Officer with administrative tasks for the ICS selection days; attending and supporting the ICS selection days; encouraging outgoing volunteers to complete and return their pre-departure paperwork; encouraging outgoing volunteers in their fundraising efforts, and providing administrative support for the selection, training and return volunteer days and for the ICS project as a whole.
Is this volunteer role right for you?
You will receive an induction and support to carry out this role. Ideally we are looking for: excellent organisational and administrative skills (filing, emailing, database management, etc); good ability in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); good attention to detail; ability to use your own initiative and work both in a team and individually; enthusiasm and a proactive approach, including willingness to speak to people over the telephone and face-to-face (at events); excellent English skills, including spoken English as well as reading and writing skills; a professional and courteous approach; responsible and reliable, and an ability to commit to three months volunteering. Some experience of administration, knowledge of faith communities, knowledge of volunteering in the UK or overseas, and/or communications, marketing or events experience would be useful, but is not essential.
