Manager Land of Promise (Research) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Position Within the Organisation
The “Land of Promise Project” is a special project being run by Fairfood, which aims to improve the sustainability of the pineapple sector in the Philippines. The purpose of this position is to provide contextual knowledge on the actions of companies and relevant sustainability issues (social, environmental and economic) within the pineapple sector – especially in relation to the island of Mindanao.
Function & Responsibilities
The Manager, Land of Promise (Research) is responsible for proactively providing the Land of Promise project with all background and factual information related to the campaign issues. This will include providing information and advice mainly in the form of written reports and small ad hoc research assignments. You will be responsible for researching and advising the campaign manager on what issues and companies should be tackled in the project, fact checking campaign information through research and contact with partner organisations, and ultimately evaluating the impact of the campaign on the livelihoods of people and the environment on Mindanao.
You are expected to work together with the LoP campaign team in defining and implementing the most effective campaign actions.
The manager will also be expected to network extensively with experts and other organisations that can provide the level of in-depth and ‘on ground’ information required.
Furthermore, you are expected to participate in the monitoring and evaluation of the campaign, managing the budget allocated to the research efforts of the campaign and regularly reporting on progress to the campaigns manager.
You are also responsible for managing a team of volunteers that assist in implementing the research actions of the campaign.
Your competencies
You have a master’s degree in a relevant field and have work experience relating to campaigning or action oriented research. You also possess in depth knowledge of the pineapple or fresh fruit sector, or export agriculture in the Philippines.
You are highly results-oriented, committed to achieving campaign objectives and are committed to supporting the activities and objectives of the entire project team. As such, you adapt quickly to changing priorities and ad hoc requests. You show initiative in a team and are able to motivate volunteers to produce high quality results on tight deadlines. You are able to prioritize work easily and ideally have experience delegating tasks to others.

Obviously, you have a close affinity with Fairfood’s goals and are able to help partners translate these objectives into their own work.
