The Position
The Aga Khan Early Learning Centre (AKELC) is a private nursery school located in the Oud Metha area of Dubai, UAE. The Centre serves children, age 1 to 4 years. The Arabic Preschool Teacher is responsible for actively engaging with children in their learning centres in order to promote learning and ensure spontaneous dialogue using Modern Classical Arabic language. The Arabic Preschool Teacher will also:
  • Plan and implement daily activities for young children, in an environment based on the High/Scope Curriculum Approach

  • Work with other teachers to prepare learning environments, materials and other resources for use by the children

  • Develop a relationship with parents and caregivers to become partners in their child's education

  • Resolve conflict with and between children using proactive strategies and problems solving steps

  • Prepare a safe, nurturing environment to support the developmental needs of children

  • Ensure materials and equipment are cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis

  • Document daily observations of child development for use with planning activities, developing individual support strategies and tracking developmental change to build a profile of information towards portfolios

  • Complete written documentation using the Child Observation Record (COR) and share with parents in report form, using English and/or Arabic where appropriate

  • Work with your team to provide Arabic translation on individual child observation programmes, plans and portfolio in your classroom<

  • Communicate and share information of interest with parents/guardians regularly via diaries and/or emails

  • Participate in professional development and training programmes offered by the Centre

  • Coordinate and monitor the use of Modern Classical Arabic across the Centre

  • Complete translation tasks for both written and verbal communications, as required by your Team Leader and the Centre Director

  • Monitor Arabic language use in displays across the Centre

  • Support the promotion of Arabic language across the Centre, with parents and in the wider community

  • The Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or Education-related discipline

  • Previous teaching experience in a nursery or preschool programme

  • Fluent in English and Arabic languages - written and spoken
