Campaign Tobacco-Free Kids ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR RESEARCH


The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) has been designated as one of five coordinating partners for the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use – a global initiative to reduce tobacco use in low and middle-income countries where more than two-thirds of the world’s smokers live. As part of the Bloomberg Initiative, the Campaign has established a global advocacy resource center to provide accurate public information about tobacco use and effective tobacco control interventions and to assist advocates with resources and technical assistance to achieve policy change. These resources include advocacy, research, communications, and legal expertise and support.

The Associate Director of Research for the International Advocacy Resource Center will be responsible for providing research support and technical assistance to advocates and grantees working to develop and promote tobacco control policies. 

PRIMARY DUTIES:
 
  • Manage the preparation of materials that translate research and evidence into advocacy related materials, such as briefing papers, reports, fact sheets, and presentations. 
  • Manage the provision of technical assistance for one or more of the following types of short-term research projects: compliance surveys, polling, tax and economic analysis, air quality monitoring and the evaluation of grants.
  • Provide core research support to one or more of the Bloomberg Initiative’s priority country teams, and advise/participate on other country or regional teams on an as-needed basis:
  • Assist in the development of strategic advocacy plans to guide tobacco control policy change and policy implementation work.
  • Assist the team(s) using data and research effectively to drive and support advocacy efforts.
  • Monitor international research on tobacco control and policy developments and conduct policy analysis for tobacco control advocacy.
  • Provide technical assistance to advocates on the design of short term, policy-related research that will advance policy goals.
  • Supervise research associates in materials development process and rapid response to requests from advocates, TFK staff and other international partners. 

Qualifications


Required Skills:
  • Master in Public Health, Economics, Public Policy or related degree required. 5+ years of experience in legislative analysis, policy research, evaluation, and/or the use of research to advance advocacy efforts.
  • Proficiency in research methods, including design and analysis, to assist advocates with advocacy oriented, local research.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess relevance and translate public health and/or tobacco control research for consumption by the public, advocates and policy-makers through website content, fact sheets, talking points, briefs, or non-refereed publications.
  • Broad knowledge of tobacco control policies and programs required.  Expertise in tobacco economics desired. 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills with a high level of proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and database tools. 
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Foreign language skills and familiarity with domestic and/or international tobacco control community a plus.
