Deputy Team Leader, Futures Group Kenya


Futures Group develops and delivers innovative, locally relevant, evidence-based solutions to empower people to improve their health and well-being. We assist governmental and nongovernmental agencies, foundations, and the private sector to design, implement, and evaluate programmes in reproductive health, population and family planning, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, infectious diseases, and gender and youth.

Position Summary
We seek an exceptional candidate for a Deputy Team Leader on an upcoming family planning programme in Kenya. The Deputy Team Leader will overlook and manage the administrative, financial, and operations teams who will support the programme. This is a full-time position to be based in Kenya and will report to the Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Team Leader, manage all administrative, operations, and financial project personnel.
  • Manage the project infrastructure, including all operations and administration such as office management, subcontracts and procurement, human resources, finances and accounting, and grants management.
  • Participate in quarterly, semi-annual, and annual report writing processes and financial reports.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable corporate, donor, and government rules and regulations regarding this contract while supporting rapid start-up, implementation, and closeout.
  • Provide analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, consider, and resolve issues or problems.
  • Hold delegation of authority for financial and operational responsibility.
  • Represents the project in the absence of the Team Leader.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in business management, finance, accounting, human resources management, or other related discipline.
  • Successively responsible positions in project operations or business management and administration.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in different aspects of project management.
  • 5 years’ experience required in managing programme operations including for large-scale donor- or government--funded programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage operational staff.
  • Understanding of DFID, USAID, and/or other donor rules and regulations regarding contracts.
  • Understanding of Kenyan health markets and key partners desired.
  • Ability to work independently, determine priorities, and manage a variety of activities while collaborating with partners.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, personnel, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong results orientation and commitment to accountability and value for money;
  • Strong personal qualities, including integrity, commitment to excellence, equality, openness, inclusiveness, and collegiality.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required.
  • Local language capabilities are an advantage.
