Organizational Setting |
The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), which reports directly to the Director General, was established to provide legal services of the highest possible standards to the Secretariat and to the organs and bodies of the IAEA, as well as to Member States, regarding the implementation of the IAEA's activities. There are three Sections in OLA with responsibility for different topics: the General Legal Section, the Non-Proliferation and Policy-Making Section and the Nuclear and Treaty Law Section. The incumbent reports to the Section Head and a Senior Legal Officer of the Nuclear and Treaty Law Section. |
Main purpose |
Under the guidance of the Head of Section and the Senior Legal Officer, the primary function of the incumbent will be to advise Member States on the implementation of international legal instruments adopted under IAEA auspices and to assist Member States in drafting corresponding national legislation. |
Role |
The incumbent is (1) a member of the legislative assistance team within the Nuclear and Treaty Law Section and provides high quality professional inputs in developing further and implementing the IAEA's Legislative Assistance Programme and (2) an advisor in reviewing and drafting comprehensive national nuclear legislation for Member States. |
Partnerships |
The incumbent works with other officers in OLA and relevant Departments in the IAEA and establishes collaborative and sustainable relationships with Member States. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 483 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $37 925*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
