Terms of Reference for External Experts for the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund Committee
AGRA is a dynamic partnership working across the African continent to help millions of small-scale farmers and their families lift themselves out of poverty and hunger. AGRA’s programs develop practical solutions to significantly boost farm productivity and incomes for the poor while safeguarding the environment. AGRA advocates for policies that support its work across all key aspects of the African agricultural value chain from seeds, soil health and water to markets and agricultural education. AGRA works across sub-Saharan Africa and has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and an office in Accra, Ghana.
AGRA hosts and provides strategic management and oversight to the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) an investment fund of USD $180m that backs innovative business ideas in agri-business, rural financial services, renewable energy and climate adaptation technologies in Africa.
The AGRA Board is searching for two external experts from the private sector or investment management to join the AECF Committee. As a key milestone from the reform process of the governance structure of AECF, the committee was formed to provide a maturing and expanding investment fund with the strategic oversight and direction that the fund needs.
The experts will bring to the Committee extensive knowledge and experience in the following areas: (a) Investment fund management, including patient capital/impact investment or venture capital funds; (b) Financial accounting; (c) Performance management; and (d) Risk management.
The experts will also be expected to have an extensive record of achievement in their fields and an understanding of agriculture’s contribution to wealth creation and poverty reduction in Africa.
