Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis in Washington, DC

FHI 360 serves more than 60 countries, all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis in Washington, DC.
Position Description:
Directs the activities of the team of Strategic Planning and Analysis analysts and strategists that provide business intelligence support for the organization at large, and for individual business segments. Advises business by providing recommendations based on analysis activities to inform the organization’s direction, growth and health based on company and external analysis. Owns and directs the processes which shape and develop the organization’s strategic plan. Plans, manages, directs and motivates the activities of teams to provide business performance management, marketplace analytics, operational strategic development and support, relationship management and outreach to business segments and the business at large. Provides leadership in the planning, designing, due diligence and implementation of strategic business objectives. Advises business by providing strategic information to identify and address business issues and opportunities.
  • Responsible for a formulating/ developing the process to shape organizational strategic planning and analysis activities, which impact the organization’s direction, growth and health.
  • Provides leadership in the development of strategic business objectives identified in organizational strategic planning, spearheading collaboration with operations, enterprise services, and other organizational stakeholders (through strategic planning, annual planning and business performance management).
  • Makes operational recommendations to senior leadership on critical and complex aspects of strategic planning and analysis.
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Directs relationship management and outreach team to drive new business opportunities as well as manage and strengthen relationships with existing partners and funders.
  • Chairs the Conference Selection and Tiering Team and facilitates the cross organizational process to ensure FHI 360 targets strategically selected conferences and events to meet organizational strategic goals.
  • Directs the Marketplace Analytics team in providing internal, external, competitive and funder analysis to shape strategic direction at the corporate level.
  • Directs the Regional, Sector and Special Initiatives team to support operations teams with strategic capacity and planning needs.
  • Responsible for the execution of strategic initiatives developed from strategic planning or other corporate planning processes.
  • Provides leadership to the strategic planning and analysis team at the sector, regional, country or organization-wide level.

  • Possesses a full understanding of the organizational structure, policies and practices, and impact on own area and the entire organization.

  • Decisions and actions may have a direct impact on the outcomes of both own department or the entire organization.

Minimum Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in business, development management, international development, public policy or its equivalent required.  Typically requires a minimum of 10+ years in non-profit management, operational and/or development functions.  Demonstrated high competency in project management; resource scheduling, managing timelines, and leading team activities required.  Experience serving as a member of an executive team.  Experience managing and achieving successful outcomes with complex processes with multiple internal and external stakeholders and multiple interdependencies.   Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management.
Advanced degree (M.S., MA, M.B.A.) or its equivalent experience preferred
Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred
